I'd be interested in info...got a spare S1W tank I want to get custom painted, and I don't want it to peel (like they like to do...). |

Why would you need to seal a plastic tank? The paint issues are from the adhesion properties of the nylon tank. |

From what I've read and seen, the bubbling is not an adhesion problem but a fuel vapor venting through plastic problem. The vapor vents, gets caught under the paint, sits there long enough, forms a bubble...off comes paint. If I can keep vapor out of the plastic to begin with, I suspect the paint will last much longer |

im not sure it is going to work that way, you shouldnt have problems with bubbling if you do the job correctly and use the listed paint, hardener, reducer, sealer, clearcoat |

The KBS stuff is stated to be used on metal or fiberglass tanks. Our tanks are not fiberglass but some type of nylon or poly. I'm wondering if it's going to stay put or come loose and foul up the fuel system??? |

Is it issue with the paint peeling off, or the decals? I've only ever seen the decals bubble, and heard that repaints with emblems or airbrushing don't bubble. True? Not True? |

I got an stock tank at home and the paint is quite bubbled up. It looks like hell and it has never been repainted. |

IIRC the RS and earlier bikes used a fiberglass tank so you guys with the later tube frames can ignore this thread. |

PPG makes the sealer for this type of tank. I saw it on a thread here, Hey Jim you gonna make it to the salt? |

Thanks for that info Jim. I suspected that was the case but didn't really know. I wish there was a good fix for the poly tanks but I haven't seen anything that has withstood the test of time. Not much will stick to the poly and stay put once fuel vapors gets to it. They all bubble..., some worse than others. BC Steve |

My spare tank is totally bubbled, it started at the decals and spread over the whole thing. My replacement (goodwill) tank is starting to show some flex cracking. Still looks good from everywhere but the drivers seat, but I'm tossing around the idea of a mild custom on the spare if I can get it sealed properly. Although a painter friend of mine always stands behind his work, I'm sure if he does it and it bubbles, he'll re-do it... |
