I need to replace the oil tank on my 98 S3T. Are the stock ones still available? If so, where can I buy one?

On another note, has anyone had direct experience with the aluminum aftermarket ones that Al sells? I am also talking about the ones for the S3T specifically? Did it fit as it should using all the mounting bolts. Were any modification necessary?

Regards,

The alum. tanks are nice but big $$$s. I have seen the oil tanks pop up on Ebay everyday from people parting them out. While your waiting you can clean it with degreaser and use JB Weld to fix it for now.

Thanks Bill but I'd rather buy a new stock tank, or the aluminum one if they fit correctly without modifications.

If the grommets in your oil tank are weeping or leaking you can glue them in ...

Over 100,000 miles ago mine started to weep/leak ...

Called BUELL Service and they told me "i" would have to buy a new oil tank to correct this ...

WELL, "BUELLschitte", "i" just "GLUED" them in !!!

Buellistic, what kind of glue did you use one of mine has been "weeping" and I'm none to keen on buying a whole new tank.

Used thin model airplane glue ...

Once "i" got all the glue in the right places, sprayed with the instant hardener ...

Used BRAKE CLEANER to make sure every thing was clean ...

Spent a few hours today trying to install a new aftermarket oil tank I bought from my bud Al at American Sport Bike.

I had to cut about 1/2 inch off the bottom oil tank hose. There is no way I will be able to push on the hose barb fitting onto the hose. The only way I see how to do it is to buy new hose, put it on the bottom port on the oil tank first, then try an thread it down through the engine and onto the oil put etc.

Questions:

1. Do you think that is possible? Sure looks tight to me.

2. Will I need to take off the exhaust header to get to the oil pump connections?

3. Are they any specs on the hose I need. I would rather buy hose more than I need then cut it down myself. Any suggestions on what to buy?

4. Looks like the afermarket oil tank is missing a gromet too, meaning they left one out on the bottom right side (belt side of the bike).

What a PITA,
