Im not sure, But , did Erik just buy numbered engines and then apply Vin # to frames, as Their is no resembelance from Engine vin to frame vin
Can anyone enlighten me Here?...Court?..

THose bikes' had the worse XL engine EVER
designed. Silly Stator/Rotor behind the
clutch pack

Poor engine aside,of course,a beautiful machine

Yes, not the nicest design of charging system , but it works and Ive seen Sportys with a ton of miles on em still going strong...The key is too replace the large bearing in the shell every now and again...
Plus, far better than a generator...Hb

Yes, we did buy batches of engines. Usually 4 at at time. VIN was assigned to a bike as it was built and the engine SN was assigned at Cap Drive as they made the engines, so there is no way that would ever be close to each other.

There is a record of each VIN SN combination however.

Re master cylinder is stickin, front master cylinder needs love too..
Seat is split by nose seam
Missing a few body screws.
Paint is about a 7 outa 10 still

When you pull that clutch hub off, check the magnets in the stator, and make sure they're good and tight. They like to pop magnets off, thus trashing the clutch, stator, and rear tire (when it locks up solid as you're blasting through a corner).

Yeah,certainly a great bike.
I used to HATE picking out those
bits of broken up magnet death.

Eventually,i fitted a one piece
rubberized piece of magnet,and
secured the ends with
an expanding clip

That was also a bored and stroked

Hey now...I rode the S2 yesterday, with the added braces to the saddlebags. What a difference THAT made, no more jello-shimmy in crosswinds. Unbelievable, I had no idea they transmitted that much wiggle to the ass end
.

And just because I bought a Uly to ride in crappy weather...sheesh. I figured it'd be a great way to keep the S's (1W and 2) clean!

Hank,

The more(and closer) you look at it. The more you can appreciate what it took to bring it to life.

A good spot to start is the welds on the frame.

Truly a good looking ride from the pics. Enjoy.

Air filter adapter, oil tank, & cut and changed sportster parts, etc...Overall things are looking pretty good....The brakes are hanging up some and its overall engine was rather dirty from 18yrs of not being anally cared for..I pressured washed the hell outa it so far and now am ready to remove the engine...parts are ordered already....
gasket set, brake pads,a few detail items and thats about it...Tom from EFB has bin helpfull and is getting an order ready for me of some stuff thats still available from Buell...
I did ride it first , but not far...Felt awsumme....A late 101 engine shoulda bin in it...LOl.....TTYL..Hb

The fellow who did those frames still does work for the R&D department at Buell. He is an artist with that welder. He also made those oil tanks.

Nice bike! Nicer model!! You have my respect for taking on a project like this(I think your brakes need a good flush-out),my '99 was a mess but it's squared away now after many long hours and long dollars, and it's relativley new compared to this one, have fun on it!
