Hi,
I was curious if anyone knows what the production numbers were/are the for the M2.

I'm seeing alot of these bikes getting butchered for chopper projects so I'm sure the existing M2 numbers are dropping.

Thanks.

Fuell published these numbers in 2003:

Cyclone M2 1997-2002 8,108
Cyclone M2 Low 2001-2002 1,754

...which does add up to 9,862!

I'd like to know who has the earliest production number. Mine is very low, but there were some built before it. I guess that is if they started the VIN numbers at 00001.

Wow... I didn't realize the small production numbers. 97-98 models don't share a lot of parts with 99 and 00-02 models.

Not many M2's out there.

Just discovered a few days ago that the '02 M2 I just bought was in fact an M2L. Now that I know only 1,754 were produced it feels that much more special. ; )

Thanks for posting the numbers...

I've bought and sold many tubers... most were bought to be protected from chopper projects. I only sold to enthusiast. (Check out my site to see them all)

I now have an 02 M2 Orange frame with Volcano Grey body work. This color scheme resembles the RW750 (Buell's first bike) color scheme.

Was this intentional?

>>>Was this intentional?

No.

done by two different folks for different reasons and when you see them the colors aren't that close.

The orange frame RW750 was painted that color when Buell employees assembled an example from spare parts to present as a surprise to Erik Buell. The original RW750 didn't have an orange frame in the pics I've seen of it.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the M2 thread, but does anyone know the production numbers for the S3?
Thanks,

So if the last numbers of my VIN was 00158 does that mean it was #158 of the complete M2 run. Was there different prefixes for different years?

No. It does not.

The year code is embedded in the VIN and the nomenclature for digit arrangement and significance is in the front of your owner manual.

VIN's are not NECESSARILY run in serial order.

How many does anyone think are left of M2's? Loss because of Choppers and accidents. I bet there are less than 50% left after all these years. (9862) Those are WORLDWIDE production numbers. How many were in USA actually. I live 20 miles W. of Philly. I see on a nice day 500-600 motorcycles on a weekend and I might see 1 Buell, newer 2003 up. I have never seen a tuber on the road. I have 5 Harley/Buell dealers within 50 miles of me, so it is not a shortage of potential bikes sold. I have a M2, I ride with Ducati guys. I see at least 4 out of those 500 bikes Ducatis and there are only 2 Dealers in the area over 20-40 miles away, and the Ducati import numbers can't be that great. I wish I would see more Buells. When I ride with my brother-in-law I see more bikes like his 1977 Ironhead Sportster mint, than Buells. Weird and Frustrating. On the other hand the question always is to me. WHAT IS THAT?, I am always excited to tell them.

Not many M2s show up for our get togethers in North Georgia I've noticed. I only remember seeing 4 the last time... there were more S1Ws than M2s there.

I remember four M2s and one S1 and one S1W (mine) but I was drinking a lot.

Plus, I had to leave early to head back to Colorado so I probably missed a couple.

I should have said S1, not S1W. Smoke had his S1 (in a totally different permutation than the last time I saw it) out there as well. There were also a few S1s parked along the wooden fence... don't believe I caught who owned them though.

There was also Neil's friend Dirk's black M2 out there.
