Hello everyone. After one year off the road I'm thinking about getting my X1 plated and insured again (losing your girlfriend does have some benefits I guess!). Before I put it away the last time, I changed the engine oil and oil filter, I changed the trans. oil, put some gas stabilizer in the tank, unplugged the battery, and changed the spark plugs. Any other things to do besides charging the battery to get it going again after the time off the road? Thanks for any advice. |

I would run it one cycle and change engine oil if you are not running synthetic. Then ride it like you stole it!!! |

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. Unfortunately, I checked with my insurance company and the ex had a car accident (my car, my insurance) last year and my premium went up $1800.00, to $3000.00/ year, goddamnit. Nice parting gift from my ex that will last me another 5 friggin' years!!! I guess it's extended retirement then, crap! ...in the meantime, I still have this one I can ride (not quite as much fun as the X1 though)... (Message edited by x1_rider on April 28, 2008) |

I checked with like 5 insurance companies when I bought the bike a few years ago, 3 of them didn't even want to touch a Buell, one of them was charging me $3500.00, and the last one, Primmum, was at $1200.00 (now $3000.00 due to the accident). |

Thanks. The Buell gives me some knee problems due to the CrossRoads bars and the rearsets I put on it. I am getting too old for the crouched position! The FatBoy has forward controls which allows more leg extension than the floorboards, much more comfortable. |

Wow, that's a sweet X-1 hope you can get on it again. Try Dairyland insurance...my X-1 is paid off, and basic liability is $50 per year, and $30 for my S3T I just had added to the policy. Christian |

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out Dairyland, my Buell is paid off as well. I wonder if they deal with Canadian customers though, I'm from northern Ontario, where the biking season doesn't warrant a $3000.00 premium (it's snowing here today)! |

You can always sell a valve stem cap off that Fatboy too pay for your insurance OR just do what the rest do... Put it in your brother, sister, mother or even your grandmas name for better rates |

haha, good advice! all my grandparents are dead and I'm the only one in my immediate family with a bike license. Besides, I'm in this friggin' mess because I let my girlfriend put her car in my name, if anything, I kinda learned a lesson. |

"if anything, I learned a lesson" Yes you did. An expensive one. Nice bike that Fatboy. I prefer that awesome White Lightening. Best wishes... |

Thanks. Believe it or not, I got that White Lightening off eBay for less than 7K USD (if I remember well, I know it was about $7500.00 CAD) a couple of years ago. Sold by a Harley/Buell dealership in Ohio, very low mileage and in tip top condition. I couldn't believe my luck. |
