Hey everyone, I just picked a 95 S2 from my local dealer. Feel I got a good deal on it, I was surfing ebay and found a "BUELL S2 S2T SWINGARM RECALL KIT 93924YA" What my question is, does anyone know what the recall was, and how I can find out if I have the new swing arm assembly? (Other than asking the original owner). This bike is nice compared to the P3 I have been using as my commuter bike for the past 3 years. I can't wait for Michigan to thaw out so I can take it for a real ride.

Thanks for any info...

Let your dealer run your vin # , they can give you a print out of all the recall work done and tell if any further is needed. Sounds like you got a nice one. Post some pic when you can.

Grizzbo, you might want to ask Ratbuell to run the VIN for you. He has done this for me many times in the past. Have fun with your new 95 S2. Frank

you can also go on h-d.com, go to service and check your vin there. It gives you an alarm if there is an open recall after you enter your VIN number. Did you get the black sapphire S2 from American HD in Ann Arbor? Post pics!

Buelltours, Yes it is the one from A2. It is there now as we speak. They are taking care of the last 2 recall issues for the bike. The Fuel cell leak, and the Instrument Cluster supports. I am really looking forward to getting it home, and even more to getting it out on the road.

Has anybody checked out that new website from a fellow Buell fanatic? Classic Buell.com Very Cool! No S2 yet .....Still keeping a watchful eye....remember it went away for the winter when it got below 50 outside. Not a Bad Weather Biker I guess.

Well everyone with the hint of warm weather the past few days I took the S2 out for a few short rides. I am concerned about how rough the engine is running I did replace the plugs today and it seemed a little better, but it really doesn't seem to have much power, well at least not what I was expecting coming from a P3 and owning 1000cc bikes before. I pulled the air cleaner also today when I changed the plugs and found alot of moisture in the element and the cover. I am wondering if the sit time in the dealer, etc is the issue or ???? Anyone got any ideas? Also what type engine does the S2 have 1005, 1006, 1007 etc.

Grizz.

Grizz,
You might want to check and replace the intake seals. If they've never been replace, they ARE shot.
You may also want to run a fresh tank of gas through it, gas these days doesn't stay fresh very long.
Maybe put in a dose of Seafoam and run the tank through.
Also check the jetting in the carb when you are replacing the intake seals. A 45 or 48 pilot is good.
The air screw around 2 1/2 turns out. Check the KV for details, it's been gone over tons of times.
The main should be a 180 or a 185.

Keep in mind the S2's have a stock 1203cc Sportster motor in them complete with Lightning heads and pistons. It wasn't unit 1998 they started putting in the Thunderstorm top ends. The heavier flywheels make it rev a bit slower.

The S2's want to be ridden smoothly. They reward you with a very sweet riding experience.
With the S2 you ride "in it" instead of "on it". You soon feel like the bike is an extension of yourself.
Both of ours are a bit picky about tires. The tire pressure is important. Just a few pounds low and the bike just doesn't feel right.

Let us know hot things turn out.

Brad

no lightning heads stock. came with stock evo heads new, just like sportster. 96 is when lightning heads were installed as i recall. check everything from the situp, replace the gas and oil and run it.
have fun,

Grizzbo - as noted above, the S2 comes with a stock Evo Sporty motor. About 1k miles after I got mine, I replaced the top end with thunderstorm heads and pistons, and put in Lightning cams. Muuuch better now : ) Of course, the bike I was trying to compare it to is my 98 S1W. I have since learned there is no comparison - the bikes are totally different animals. While I still own the others, the S2 has pretty much taken the place of both the S1W and my 96 FLHP. It's comfortable, communicates very well to the rider, it handles great, the brakes are awesome, and now with the updated top end it's got a great powerband.

I like it so much, I just bought a bare S2 frame to rebuild. The rest of the bike went to a "chopper"...I figure it's earned a resurrection.

Phat_j - "lots" of S2 parts, eh? Hmmm.... : )

Brad: Thanks for all the great info. I went to the "Seafoam" website and read up on it. I think I can pick it up at my local Carquest. I wasnt expecting sportbike like performance, but something definitely is not right. I will call the dealer today and see if they have the intake seals. Hey by the way the original owner removed the VOES and replaced it with a on-off switch mounted right about the ignition. So best guess why do you think he would do that? I am making an assumption that he changed the jetting or cams or something, but it does have the stock exhaust on it. Bike it running way to rich that is for sure.

Phat_j: Thanks for the info. Dont suppose you have a factory VOES assembly sitting around there somewhere to ya? I travel to Holland alot for work and plan to take the S2 this summer, maybe I will run into you.

CYA...Be good.

Kodi.

Grizzbo, if you should take your S2 towards Toledo step by and check out a "regular" S2 for comparison. I have one that is bone stock. What was the HP rating at the time? Like 65?

Previous owner may have changed ignition for VOES op. Are their revets or bolt on your cover.Take the hose off switch and put back on carb. The dealer will be of LITTLE HELP.Good luck!

Phat_j - well, I bought a bare S2 frame a couple weeks ago....thinking of building an S2/S3/XB hybrid... So far...I have the bare frame, a front rotor (thanks HankB!), a pair of sideplates, a tank recall holddown set, and four tank rubber bumpers.

Hey...its a start. LOL.

Wife and budget permitting I'm going to start accumulating bits. First I think will be the bodywork; I can get just about anything else at work (Buell dealer). It'll be cool to ride around on an EFI S2 with "FOR RACE USE ONLY" stamped on the engine cases : )

that is the first of the recal shocks.... it should have been upgraded again.... the original one had an exposed spring.... the second has the long shank, the third has the short stocky shank with the bracket change to move it back so the shorter one will work....and if that one is weeping, soon you will be bouncing like a pogo stick.

Hey guys, been getting a few more chances to spend some time getting know the new lady in my life, The bike guys the bike..

Anyhow, went on a very long ride yesterday in all kinds of conditions, city, back roads, and eway. Bike is smooth and loves to run, but in traffic, and at slow speeds I feel like it wants to shake it self apart. Not sure what that is all about yet.

Also I think that if there is a fuel filter or screen in the fuel tank it is partially clogged or obstructed. I had this same problem on my P3. I am only using about 3 gallons of fuel before I have to switch over to reserve. Anyone else had this problem?

Be good all.....

Grizzbo I have found about the same thing. When filling up just after going on reserve I was only able to put about 3.3 gal in the tank.

I haven't had the petcock out of my S2 yet, but if it's anything like the one in the M2 it is just a plastic tube you can cut to length. Some of the "older" Buells were known (if I recall correctly and if I was told correctly) to have some variation in how much fuel they hold.

Get a big gas can and set it up next to your bike, disconnect the gas line from the petcock, then put a different gas line from the petcock into the gas can. Measure how much gas is in the tank, with the bike sitting upright somehow, from when it hits reserve to when it runs dry.

When I clipped the tube shorter in the M2 I think I clipped a bit too much off of it and wouldn't be surprised if it is now way less than 1/2 gallon on reserve, maybe less than a quart, maybe less than that as I haven't measured it since I clipped it. I do know my M2 tank will hold a full 5 gallons, and my S2 will hold at least 4 gallons, but I'm not positive what their actual total capacity is.

Also, I believe the tube inside the screen on my M2 had at one time walked itself upward and was restricting fuel flow, which is why I clipped it in the first place so that wouldn't happen again.

>>>to have some variation in how much fuel they hold.

That was not true of the S2. It was on some of the early roto-molded tanks.

Good to know, thanks. I'm tempted to do a drain and measure on the S2 just to see how much it really does hold. I've got a spare S2 tank and off of the bike it looks way smaller than the M2 tank does. I should try to post a pic of the tanks side by side, maybe later this weekend if I don't get sidetracked on something.
