That's cool that the dealer does that! |

Coincidentally, when I received the phone call 2 weeks after the belt replacement, oil change and fork oil change, I had just dropped the bike off two hours earlier for the most recent voltage regulator failure. |

I called the service dept today. Said they were test riding it and would call when the guy got back. Haven't heard from them yet. (3 hours ago) Hmmm |

Some good news. Bike is ready after I called earlier today, I guess they didn't get a chance to test ride it on Friday or Saturday. Said they finished it up this morning. So a little less than 20 days later I can pick it up. On another note, I followed up with Buell customer service and they are requesting that the dealer's service department file a warranty claim for the belt replacement. I'll receive a credit from the dealership. That's the story for now. The next question is to keep the bike or not. Mike |

Seems like it would be prudent to interview the dealer better next time (regardless of what brand you buy). Your experience with that dealer sucks, but it's still a better experience then I had with a Yamaha / Suzuki shop. |

When I called today, the service rep said he still had my paper work to do for the recent work. The nightmare scenario is that they will consider this recent problem to be not valid for warranty coverage. It was about 70 degrees on the day of the failure. I do have heated grips installed and of course I was NOT using them. Would even having them exist effect the voltage regulator and warranty coverage because I "modified" the electrical system. Just a nightmare scenario that could occur with these guys. I'd call Buell customer service right away if that's the situation. If I decide to go Duc, I know the local dealer/service dept is very good. The alternative is a Yamaha FJR which would probably run forever(knock wood) and a local shop for them is decent from what I hear. Thanks for the advice. Later, Mike |

Mike, Ride the bike when you get it back. You'll fall in love with it all over again. Despite all the problems I had with my old M2 Cyclone, when it ran... there was nothing else like it. Then again, it wasn't as important to me that it wasn't the most reliable motorcycle I've ever owned as I had a backup bike that IS. I got lucky when I traded in the Cyclone for my XB12Ss. So far, that's been as reliable as just about anything else I've owned. |

Final note: Picked up the Uly this morning. About 20 days after dropping it off. Voltage regulator was back ordered. It only arrived early last week. Upon replacement of the regulator, they noticed one of the wire harnesses/connector for the VRM under the seat was melted. Guess they should have checked all harnesses before ordering the VRM. I think my bike is their Buell technician training bike. Thankfully they ordered the wire harness overnight, but it seems it still took them a couple days to finally get it installed. Good news, everything was under warranty. That's all for now. See you on the road. Later, Mike |

What is the VRM harness? Can you post a picture? I'd like to check my bike. Thanks for any help, Mark |

Mark, I'm not sure where it connects exactly I haven't had a chance to take a look yet. If you have the parts manual there is a drawing of it on the page for the Voltage regulator. The harness splits and I believe(don't know for sure) the connector which melted contained the ground wire and positive lead. Mike |

Bike is running great right now. I've been commuting and taking the usual weekend rides without a problem. Still on the fence about keeping it. I like it for it's handling, power and all of the Buell characteristics. It's more of a love hate relationship. What can break next? When? How long will I wait for the part? All of these sit in the back seat when I ride it. Still waiting on the $260+/- refund promised by Buell customer service from the local shop. I'll have to follow up with B.C.S. Later, Mike |
