My bike set of a check engine light today and ran a bit funny. When I came home and plugged in the ECMSPY cable I got an error that the firmware could not be found. I have tried everything I could as it pertains to the cable but nothing. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Happens to all of us.

What did ECMSPY say about the CEL?

Excessively lean condition

It is intermitant and comes and goes. I am hoping that a new O2 sensor will cure the problem. It seems to be more of an electrical issue than mechanical.

O2 sensor fixed it.

i just got the cable to connect to the ecm on my 08` xb12r, but ecmspy wulnt let me fetch my tables nd stuff like that, keeps telling me firmware cant be found. what gives? and also, what is the "standard procedure" for a tps reset on this bike. im new to the tuning thing but decent with computers. the vin tag has a manufacture date of august 2007, but other places say its a 2008.

It is my understanding (I own a 08 XB9SX) the ECM resets the TPS every time at start up with the crank position sensor input ( so timing can't be checked either!) There is a manual procedure for TPS reset but why bother?
Alot of websites suggest you check the com port allocation to your cable. I got lucky and my home computer hooked up first time.
My problem is I have been trying to get the last edition of software for palm use.
My old E2 software won't download the last page of 6 to fetch EEPROM...so I don't know if I can log data.
My version is 1.21.3 for palm ECMSpy. Anyone know of a later version and who can share?

You've been terribly misinformed.

To do a TPS reset on 08 and 09 bikes

1. Switch the Run/Stop switch to the Run position.

2. Turn ignition key on.

3. With the engine off, rotate the throttle grip from the closed throttle position to the wide open throttle position and back to closed position 3 times holding the throttle grip against each stop for one full second.

4. Cycle the key off and back on.
