motorcycle will not idle, seem to run fine on highway, i've only driven it once, it has been stored for about 8 years and started a couple time a year. i've change oil and filter and drained transmission, i haven't been able to add fluid to transmission, i'm dealing with stripped bolt head on cover, anyway the one time i drove it it blew fluid out the transmission vent and it had moisture in it, i don't understand how enough moisture got inside to turn fluid milky or grayish, could just being stored for such a long time allow enough moisture in transmission to change its color? i've never had a bike like this so its all pretty much new to me |

Won't idle = clogged pilot jet. Blowing spooge out tranny vent = could be boiling water out of tranny oil, could be bad crank seal. If it keeps doing it after a few outings, it's probably the crank seal. rt |

What Tom said, A bike that's sat that long is going to need a few things done. First is pull the carb and clean it throughly. Second, while the carb is off, replace the intake gaskets and carb boot. If they are 8 years old, they are SHOT. Since the carb is off, check the jetting. Start with a 45 pilot and a 185 or 190 for a main. Uncap the idle screw and start at 2 1/2 turns out. All the info to do this is in the Knowledge Vault. Also, get a service manual! Lots of other stuff to do but this is a good start that will get you back on the road. Brad |

Rikster- I see you're in Tx. On the OFF chance that you have a California bike, it would have come stock with a different carb. The general consensus about the California carb (an old style Qwiksilver - now made / sold by Edelbrock) is that it's great if you're an astrophysicist. Not because it's tough to figure out - or because it'll turn your bike into a rocket. Really, it's because, being relatively small, it would be a fine way to test the targeting of whatever rocket you happen to be working on. I still have the Qwiksilver on my Ca S2, though.... And believe me when I tell that I ain't no rocket scientist. -Saro |
