Hi folks. I plan on buying the repair manual for my '06 Uly and I understand that I should get diagnostic software for my laptop and a cable to connect to the bike. I've searched a bunch of threads but the software and cable are not mentioned by mfg.(that I can find). Can someone help a brother out and point me in the right direction? Much thanks. Eric |

If you have a little know-how (which you probably do since you are getting a repair manual), what you want is ECM-Spy. It is a FREE project by a fellow Bueller in Germany. If you can build yourself a cable (search for it, there are lots of threads), it provides you with as much (if not more) functionality as the $200 options. Go to EcmSpy.com for details. If you want something a little more "out of the box" I think your only other option is VDSTS. Look up Al at AmericanSportbike.com and he'll hook you up. |

Thanks, I found the threads. I'm doing my first maintenance on the bike this weekend. Just oil change and pulling the plugs to see how they look for now, but I'll be reading up on the primary. When the cable comes in I'll tinker with the ECM. |

In regard to the cable for ECM-Spy the cable can be made yourself. Go to your local auto/performance parts store and order this connector kit from MSD #8181. This is the correct end to hook to the diagnostic port and the cable can be ordered though any local electronics outlet. Just make sure it is a TTL-232R USB cable, not anything with 3v3 or similar on the end of the number. I hope this helps out. This saves the hassle of on line ordering and you support your local stores. And if the cable gets damaged or lost, it's just a phone call away. |

Thanks Shoggun. I'm having JmHinkle build the cable for me, but I'm adding these part #'s to my maintenance log in case my dog eats it. |

Hey no problem. I thought this info would help you and others out there find the pieces for the cables a little easier. A lot of riders have had similar requests. |
