Every time I see Carlos, he's on the ground somewhere.

As long as he can walk away.

Ft_bstrd, I'm beginning to think you're not even a bastard. This has to be some kind of false advertising.

Shhhhhh. Don't tell everyone.

Twintour and I got home last night from Buelltoberfest. Stayed a couple of days @ the dragon. Made it home before some rain fell. I can't believe I have to wait six more months till MBV. Who has the count down?

Friday night, or was it Saturday....
I counted 30 Buells.

I'm moving this thread into the Buelltoberfest thread in the Storm Fronts section later on this afternoon.
Just in case y'all wonder where this went...

and one very well ridden Harley!

well, that's prolly a stretch, but appreciated nonetheless... ; )

Wolf Pen Gap was fun after we left you guys at TWO Sunday morning. Denise snagged us a WPG sticker at Dale's, since you said it was ok to do so as long as we didn't affix it until afterwards. : )

i know we weren't the first bike on WPG that morning, but it seemed like it, the road still damp in many places, and very cool temp-wise. what a gem of a road. it'd take more passes than one to truly get comfortable letting my hair (what little i have) down, but at least we could PRETEND we were quick and fast!

Georgia 129 is sure a nice ride, and remains so on up into North Carolina. the weather was PERFECT, truly picture postcard-type conditions, and the run-up up to the Dragon on 129 where you turn left off of NC 74 was especially sweet.

we got into a friendly but serious knife-fight with a couple of well-ridden sportbikes along this section. the traffic was light, and for about ten or 15 miles it was just the three bikes, humping along at go-to-jail speeds, but with a lot of respect for each other, and caution at all the appropriate times.

i'm pretty confident those guys have never had a two-up and loaded Harley play tag with them like that before. this stint was one of my favorite parts of the weekend.

the Dragon, truth be told, was nerve-wracking. the place was packed, as usual, but that wasn't the problem. the issue was the LEO presence, at least six, maybe seven TN state troopers between the store and the turn-around.

i don't blame them for being there - you can't have people consistently being air-lifted out, dead or near-death, on a short little piece of rural public roadway like that without expecting official intervention.

that said, doing the Dragon at 30 mph is tough duty, even on a bike as big and heavy as mine. we did our best to entertain the photograpers (the pix from Sunday 10/7 are now up on Killboy - we're on page four in the "Cruiser" section), but we basically ran it just to earn another set of Dragon stickers for the collection, and so that Denise could say she'd been there.

hey, here's a shot outta the blue: WHY THE CAN'T SLOW MOTORCYCLISTS GET THE HELL OUTTA THE WAY WHEN YOU COME UP BEHIND THEM AND ARE OBVIOUSLY RIDING AT A FASTER PACE THAN THEY ARE?!?!?!?!?!

this happened several times this weekend, seems to happen several times every time i ride, and it puzzles me and pisses me off that SOME riders don't have the common sense and courtesy to slide over to the right and wave you on by in a situation like that.

it was comical behind one rider on 28 on our way towards Fontana. he was on a bagger, with wide bars and big mirrors, but i couldn't see any part of his faceshield in the reflection in his mirrors, which meant he couldn't see me.

even worse, he was all over the lane, very inconsistent in his lines, and rather than make an aggressive (and illegal) pass, i chose to follow him for a while and marvel in his cluelessness. for at least five miles he wasn't aware there was anyone behind him. amazing.

hey Harley riders: you are the WORST when it comes to not letting faster bikes around you. get your heads outta your asses, you're making the rest of us look bad.

sorry for the rant, guess the coffee is finally kicking in...

we had a GREAT weekend y'all, thx for having us. : ): )

Ya know what's funny?
In North Georgia, I've had more cars pull over and let me pass, than I have H-D riders.
Go figure...
Rant on Brother Ferris!
We're all with you.

Wolf Pen is THE road.
Ann's favorite is 129 I believe.
I know each time we'd get ready for a ride she'd ask if that's the direction we were going. Then, after riding it, she'd have the biggest grin.

It was great meeting you finally, and talking.
Next time though, I hope we have more time.
There are some less traveled roads up that way we could ride.
I know you and Denise would enjoy them.

FB,

Carlos, Mike Miller and Jim Nance had that exact conversation. There were three very slow wobbly baggers on Richard Russell who simply wouldn't make it easy to pass. They would creep in the corners and throw it balls to the wall in the straights.

It had to stress them out working to keep them behind us.

When we took off we weren't in correct "rip order". Slower riders pulled to the right side of the lane and gave a quick wave. One twist of the throttle and the faster rider squirted by and continued the sortie.

If you simply let me by and blink, I'll be out of your vision and out of your memory in 10 seconds or less.

You keeping me behind you because I am affront to you and YOUR road is dumb and grants me much more power over you and your experience than I should have. You'll be pissed at me for miles for no good reason.

It reminds me of a sign.

"There is no excuse for the way I am about to behave."

The HD riders were terrible up there. All but two cars let up either pass clean or pulled over for us. Most other bikes pulled over for us or let us pass clean. I pulled over for other bikes that were running faster than me or stayed in the right lane on 129. It was funny when one of those Leather matching sport bike guys caught me on 129. I was enjoying myself at a brisk but controllable pace. He caught me on the straights but when he tried to pass we were on a tight section. He pulled along side and was not going anywhere. I looked over at him and waved. That shocked him because I was not leaning off the bike or anything. He finally cleared me and took both lanes to get away from me. I kept in one lane and enjoyed the road. Its not a race track and I was not racing, just having a ball.

If ya gotta take both lanes on 129, you are riding a straighter road than you think. The real skill comes when you have two riders side by side in the turns staying in their own lane. That is friggin cool looking to watch.

I got humped by a guy on 129 who wouldn't let me pass. Someone forgot to tell him that a C240 ISN'T a performance car.

When he's going far right lane to all the way across the double yellow just to keep me from passing, I just quit trying.

Not gonna get pitched so some low level bond trader can sport a woody.

Did you happen to see South Park last night? Bono was a seven Curic crap when he was born in 1960. Stan's dad set the World record crap by doing 17 Curic's. Incredibly funny potty humor. My sixteen year old son made me watch it.

The HD riders were terrible up there.

they even suck on the Parkway, where the work load is so low there's no excuse for not knowing what's coming up behind you, and even less excuse for not letting a fellow rider get by clean and safe.

it's not only the Harley riders, of course, but they seem to me to be the worst offenders, and i'm by no means an anti-Harley guy.

Brian (Ducati 1098) and I ran up 129 Saturday and Sunday. Sunday Ann and I rode with Brain and Jenny up 129 side by side. The twin thunder was music. What a sound that was!
