I can't explain the history so I'll leave it to someone else. I will however try to assist in planning the future. Jimmy and Eric, Let's meet and plan Wednesday night. Beer Shrine, Dublin Crossing or brand new pub on 200th? Harv |

The Border Raid steering committee has had difficulty meeting to sort out options for our annual weekend raid on the Okanagan. Sorry for the delays. Seems we are having some difficulty linking up enough twisty bits of asphalt to loop through the Kootenays without riding long sections of common highway. We need to know the wishes of the collective. Option #1 – Hub in Penticton as in past years and ride the various circuits as ridden in previous years. See summary at bottom for ride to Fauquier for lunch but return back to Penticton. Option #2 – Meet in Penticton and ride with gear on bike to the Kootenays and some of the top 5 DH highways. Summary below. Penticton on Friday night looks to be a doable start destination for most. We would then ride up to Westbank to access Westside Road DH11 to Vernon. From Vernon we ride Highway 6 (Destination Hwy DH2) to the Needles Ferry and over to Fauquier for lunch. Fauquier to New Denver is a nice scenic highway that will get us to Hwy 31A (Destination Hwy DH5). This road from New Denver to Kaslo is an outstanding road that just received NEW paving last year and would get us to Nelson for our second night. From Nelson we ferry across Kootenay Lake to Destination Hwy DH1 - Kootenay Bay to Creston. This is where the plan falls short. We could be spending the balance of our day on main roads back to Osoyoos for Sunday night. From Osoyoos we could then drop into the USA and ride the North Cascade Hwy into Mount Vernon and kiss goodbye there as we all target our homeland. What do you guys and gals want to do? Is it practical to all meet in Penticton on the Friday night? Speak up. |

For about the same price as the Lakeside Resort and Casino in Penticton we could spend our second (Saturday) night at Ainsworth Hot Springs just north of Nelson. Check out the resort: http://www.hotnaturally.com/index.php What a treat this stop would be. Can't you just feel the therapeutic effects of these natural (odorless) hot springs? We need input. Another option! Option #3 – Meet in Penticton and ride with gear on bike to the Kootenays and some of the top 5 DH highways. This road from New Denver to Kaslo is an outstanding road that just received NEW paving last year and would get us to Ainsworth Hot Springs for our second night. From Ainsworth Hot Springs we ferry across Kootenay Lake to Destination Hwy DH1 - Kootenay Bay to Creston. Now we drop into the USA and travel south in Idaho to Coeur D'Alene for some awesome route around the lake before heading west for our final day on the Cascade Hwy into Mount Vernon. Might be a bit ambitious but what a Double Border Raid it would be! Pull out you maps and vote today! Cheers Jimmy |

Hey you guys - after studying the map and the Destination Hwy's book I see your quandry... I like the idea of staying in Penticton and then doing loops (of course, I missed the last couple years) or Sat night at Ainsworth - All good roads! DH5 is nice! I vote to forget DH1, don't think it's worth the rest of the ride and it's too slow and congested for serious fun. What about looping back on DH5 (worth riding both ways) then heading south on DH25 through Winlaw - the north part is fun and the views are magnificent! We could take DH 58, 79, 24 back to Osoyoos (although those are all the main hwy 3 east-west route)... North Cascades Hwy is nice, but probably will have a lot of vacationers on it on Labor Day weekend. Hmm, did this help?... |

Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment on this years Border Raid route proposals. Due to the overwhelming support for the original format, please book you accommodations for all nights in Penticton. Anyone arriving on the Friday night will have the choice of a spirited ride through the Okanagan or a leisurely tube ride down the Penticton River Channel for Saturday. Cool! Thanks Jimmy. Reservations have been confirmed. I'm trying to convince my wife to ride over with me. If she does, the leisurely tube ride sounds like something she would really enjoy. Looking forward to hooking up with everyone. See you soon! Ron, Workin' on a Sport Bike Deal in Seattle. |

Hi all, We are in Vancouver, BC until border raid. It looks like Linda probably won't be coming with me on the raid so I am wondering if there is anyone who's looking to share a room at the hotel - seems a bit spendy for 1 person for 3 nights - or if you have a special deal arranged with the hotel... Also, I'll be looking for someone to hook up with on Friday to ride over from Vancouver... MGinBend |

Hey all, Loni and I will be leaving the Van/Port area Wednesday morning in route to Border Raid 2007. We'll be taking a meandering path through Washington, mostly headed north for the planned rendezvous in Pentiction on Friday. If there is a chance of meeting anyone along the way, let us know. Can't wait to see ya'll' Chris 360-798-7459 |

Chris How about meandering up to Vancouver for Thursday night. Laura and I have a Queen Size guest room and secure bike storage. Might even find a nice bottle of wine around (ask SportyEric). Then on Friday You’d be ready for a comfortable yet scenic ride to Penticton with Bib, Sporty, Mark, Michael G, Loni and me and you. We’d be honored. Jim & Laura |

I've got reservations at the Lakeside. The room has 2 beds - anyone up for sharing the room? Chris & Loni - it would be great to ride with you from Vancouver if you take FunJimmy up on his offer. Maybe we could all get together on Thursday night since Linda won't be coming on the borderraid... MGinBend |

Thanks for the invitation from all, After hours spent studying maps for route options and clicking the sh*t out of google for accommodations, our trip puts us in Mount Vernon Wednesday night, heading to Osoyoos for a Thursday night stay, then on to Pentiction early Friday. We'll reserve parking for all and notify the local authorities of the groups arrival. See ya'll soon, Chris |

Loni and I made it to Mount Vernon early this afternoon, spent some time by the pool, soaked up some sunshine, generally enjoyed the day. Tomorrow's ride takes us across Hwy 20, then north to Osoyoos for the evening. Having a great time, wish ya'll were here, Chris |

This is turning into a hard weekend... no Ron, no Cap, no Don and Lo, and now no Bob and Debbie. Work sure can be a harsh what -'cha-call-it. This puts a heavy responsibility on the remaining members of the squadron to suck it up and put out 120%! Also we will need to suck it up each night in the names of our missing comrades We will have to lean heavily into the corners, and pull hard on the exits, to show the world that Hooliganism is, and shall always be, alive in the world! We must go out into the streets, and scream up to the Gods, 'Party-on!'. Party-on indeed. sooner, Galen (Message edited by sparropie on August 30, 2007) |
