9/12? Is it a 9 or a 12? Or does that mean you swap the heads to make a 9 into a 12?
I ditto Datallone. Only 40K miles?
My first bike was a Kaw 440. I put 23K on it in 18 months. 14 of those months in New Mexico and included one cross country ride from Albquacky to Boston. Took 4.5 days and took three weeks to get the feeling back in my right cheek.

U4euh - fess up...what's going to replace the Buell?

Datallone - glad you're coming back to VA. Hope Megan (did I remember correctly?) got home safely. Let me know if she needs a ride to VA and/or needs gear. I'll be leaving Friday probably around 2 p.m.

Don't know what will replace it, I've been eyeing a few bikes for a while now. Plus that deal listed up top may sway me also!
The ole girl's transmission went boogie on me, exactly what happened in the 9 motor that she came with. I replaced the 9 with a 12 I bought from a fellow BWB'r. between the two motors I've put 46,000 miles on them. Well the tranny started working, but how confident can I be on a long distance trip that my bike will get me home?? I've changed the fluid in the tranny 6, yes SIX, times and so far I've gotten enough metal shavings to fill a quarter roll! The thing that sucks the biggest is I just put new colored plastics, new handlebars, and a totally different seating position for the trip to the mountains, which turned out to be a trip from HELL, thanks again Mike W. for coming to my aid.
The two bikes I am looking at is an 08 FZ1(stock) and an 06 Z1000( modded very well to my liking)

U4, how about a War Horse? http://www.apachemotorcyclecompany.com/component/o ption,com_wrapper/Itemid,61/

Actually I may get a custom Hellhound exhaust for my 12Ss from this guy. He is my neighbor. I told him I wouldn't mind being a guinea pig if he wanted to add a Buell Exhaust to his product list.

Seriously, once you've had a Buell, you can't go back to imports.

Fish, That HellHound is nice, but the price is PLUS a donor bike! Kinda puts me out of it.

Buelltuner-havn't given it any thought to be honest. I was actually considering parting her out, keeping the rims and EXTRA plastics just in case I get another S model. ALL offers would be entertained though.

The the hell hound is a full on customization.
I'm only going to try an exhaust. No extension. No carbon fiber.
Prototype slip on.
Scott considers himself an artist first and engineer second. I've seen the War Horse up close and it is a master piece. That tank bottom frame of the frame is the gas tank.
He designed the frame and had it fabbed by the company that did the "Redneck Buell" that can be seen on Craigs list if it is still for sale. Weight is 180 pounds less than comparable 8 foot wheel base customs.

If I do follow through, I'll try to get a dyno run and post an MP3 too.

If you're considering a 2nd gen FZ1, please don't leave it stock. They look great with a few mods:

YES! The FZ would have to modded a bit to my riding style! And I'll keep the drag bars that are on the S right for one of those mods should I go that route.

Did y'all see the new Drummer 1125 exhaust? Tiny thing.

Spectrum should order one and have it shipped to one of his stops on that long ride.

I got to ride one in Dec. Sweet sounding at about 130mph in the 10k rpm range!

Jim, sorry about the luck man, I would almost be willing to buy the bike but alas I am cash poor right now...

The FZ6 is a pretty good bike, I rode one a few weeks back. Need suspension upgraded(BADLY), SS brake lines so you dont lose the feel and some better midrange. I would own one.

Fishgotz, I've seen Kevin's 1125R exhaust. That thing is a work of art. I only live about an hour from Kevin's shop. I doubt I'll buy one though for two reasons. The stock pipe does a pretty good job of making power and The drummer is pretty load. I've come to appreciate quite exhaust systems.

FZ6 or FZ1? I have yet to ride either. The FZ6 uses a "detuned" R6 engine and from what I've read it's not much fun unless you keep it spinning. I'd expect the FZ1 to really rip no matter where the tach is pointed.

Occasionally I do wash the bike. It can be a good thing.

That doesn't look right.

That would explain the noises I've been trying to find.

Yes, I decided they didn't really mean it when they recommended replacing the front strap.

That is accurate. Once the dang thing is over 7k it is a happy bike.

7k? That hurts my ears.
Have you considered an SV1000? Another V twin with boat loads of low end torque. A bunch of them on CL. The naked version is a bit more rare.
There is still a new 1125 to save up for.

I've had some serious "new bike" itch going on for the last few weeks, and now you guys have me thinking about FZ-1s. The 2nd gen bikes look better and get better handling hardware, but the 1st gen bikes have a stronger midrange, get better mileage, and are *dirt* cheap used. I've seen quite a few floating around in the ~$3500 range. That's a steal for a bike that puts out this kind of usable power:

Now that you know, you'll be back soon. I came back yesterday from a two night stay in the Fancy Gap area. Spent the day Sat. riding with Carlos and Kristi. Pat was able to join us later in the day for a good ride. We had a very nice time.

Jerry, had I known sooner that the Franklin trip was going to happen, I might have made it. Sorry I missed 'yall before you headed out. I stopped by your house around noon. Looks like Station's Inn has some serious competition. They sold ALL the buildings across the street. Now there is a new store, restaurant, and the restored motel is finally open. They had a live band out back, lots of picnic tables, and whatever pork they had cooking in the kitchen smelled really great. I'm gonna be staying there for a night or two real soon. I can't remember the name, but will do some searching.Hope to see you and Denise then.
Found it! www.freebornes.com/

The only riding I got is on Saturday was 300 miles oh highway to Wilson and back for training. I had to rest for a half hour after class and loosen up again.
Took the family out to Hanging Rock in the Jeep. Had a little excitement from my stupidity. Topped of coolant before the 35 mile drive but apparently I failed to completely secure the cap and lost a lot of coolant on the way there. While the engine cooled down enough to add water, we had a snack in the Jeep while is was raining.
Might try to sneak out for a ride between the rain drops today.

Nance,

I'd recognize Dave Cook's handiwork anywhere, but I'd be willing to bet that the pic you posted was from The Iron Horse Hotel. Boy, Dave and I go back a ways... I think the statute of limitations is not up yet, so I better pull a Courtism and say 'remind me to tell you sometime'... Since you were a stones throw away did you stop in at Da Museum?

I can't believe it took me all 3 days of this weekend to install HID headlights and the upgraded Firebolt headlight assemblies in the XT-BOLT. I guess that's one reason I'm a Mechanical Engineer rather than an Electrical Engineer.

HID's

Maybe it was due to my little friend (and his buddies) who were present during the festivities:

Leaving next weekend for Homecoming,

We had a good weekend in the mountains. After a great ride with Twig, Patty and Kristi, we made it back to cabin, sat down with a Fat Tire and started watching TV. Just as the rest of the family returned my middle-child tells me the toilet is not flushing right. That was an understatment. After working on the problem until mid-night, including digging up the drain pipe outside the cabin and pulling out the toilet, we could not figure out the problem. The next morning we finally see the problem. The drain line had pulled apart and caused the obstruction. Just to add salt in the wound, as I was digging out the remainder of the drain line, I hit the water line in and broke it. So after all was said and done, we fixed both the water line and the drain line. By Sunday afternoon, I was taking a well needed shower in the lil' cabin.

So today I got to ride again. The weather was not cooperative. It was raining up on the mountain pretty steady. One interesting sighting as I pulled out onto US-58 from the cabin. I saw a motorcycle coming the other way and as I turned out I met face to face with another Orange Uly. Anyone know who it was?

Twig,
The Franklin trip is an annual gig. We only pulled the trigger on going again this year two days before we left - sometimes things just work out that way. : ) Sorry we missed you, Patty, Kristi and Carlos but sounds like you had a great weekend - cepting your water issues Carlos - sorry bout that : ( We have not been to Stations Inn for awhile, looking forward to that, specially with the competition. BTW did you make it through Orchard Gap? Just wondering if the overhaul on the deli/store conversion to grill/bar is complete - we don't get out much. : D

Twig, sorry we missed you.

I rode up to Indiana on Wednesday to visit a friend who's sick with cancer, then back here to the 'Dome on Thursday (part of the way with JB2 and Bhuff, who were headed to Franklin), then launched two-up with D down the Parkway on Friday, to Franklin.

Great weather going down, crystal clear and gorgeous, but derned cold once we climbed past Mount Mitchell, and didn't warm up again until we dropped down into Cherokee.

They've finally got one lane of the Parkway open in the Craggy Gardens area, which means no more nasty mega-mile detour via Marion, NC and I-40 - HOORAY!!

We avoided Deal's Gap and the Cherohala Skyway on Saturday, but we rode Wayah Bald (my first time since '99), which was sweet.

Rode home most of the way with Alex on Sunday, via the slab, in heavy rain. The weather, as Carlos put it so succinctly above, was not cooperative.

Still, had a great weekend (1650 miles including the Indy leg), and would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Like D said, "Big Jim's Ride" is an annual gig in Franklin, every Memorial Day weekend - y'all come. : )
