on 7/4/2007, I Reached a top speed of more than 140 pluss, but not more than 145....crystal lake road, warsaw,in. 3-4 a.m.---perfect for deer, perfect for no cops, or any other traffic accept deer, or coon, suggested legal speed limit was 50mph, but this stretch of county road is a strait shot for 5 miles or more, but at that speed it rises and falls too fast too get a good look at speedometer --although fun , this will remain my personal best!!! What has been your xb9-r's top speed?

Hate to break it to ya, but you weren't going any faster than 130 or so, if you hit the rev limiter in 5th gear. The bike can't go any faster.

Speedometers are notoriously inaccurate and the further you get into the upper ranges the worse it gets.

You need a good GPS, radar gun, or time over a fixed distance to really know what your speed is.

I found out mine was 3-4 mph off by riding "radar runs" past the local police speeding sign on wheels.

lets not list our top speeds too find out that every 600 sport bike made will run circles around our beloved buells. If speed is what you want these aren't the bike too have thats for sure.

145mph ,indicated, on the back stretch going into T5 at Road America at Homecoming during the Thunderbike race. It's a slight down hill run. Faster than the main straight.

I ride a long up hill section of sweepers at about 9,000 or 10,000 feet with mostly Buell guys.

My 9 won't get past an indicated 115 or 120, pinned for minutes at a time. The XB12's go about 5 mph faster. Anyone with an import walks away from all of us if they are in the mood, but ususally we are going fast enough for the street and we stick fairly close together (exception being where the 9 is limited and the little extra the 12 has makes a difference.

On the track, I've hit 125-130 indicated, never more.

105.8mph at new england dragway. I probably have run it a little above 110mph, But I have a TimeSlip ( http://www.dragtimes.com/Buell-Lightning-Timeslip- 12957.html ) to prove the 105.8mph.

I have a time slip that says I was doing 55 in a 55, on the rear wheel. ZX11 in 1996 or so. Cool cop, only got traffic school.

I have an 03 XB9S with a Drummer, Race ECU, and K&N filter. On a wide open stretch of flat highway in northern Michigan, with temps in the high 50s, the speedo says I got up to 135 mph.

I've had my 9r pinned against redline in fifth more than a few times. I have little faith in speedometers, but the math based on governed engine redline, gear ratios and tire diameter, says that it works out to 132 mph.

I've never exceeded the legal limit on my bike!

And if you believe that I just got my hands on the deed to a bridge and I can make a special deal....just for you!

I was only able to get 130 on my 12s at the rev limiter in 5th. And that was with my dad on his FZ-1 cleaning the air for me and according to my gps. I didnt even think to look at the speedo to see the difference between the two.

130 as indicated on the speedo going down 70 west of cbus. could have gotten more as I didn't hit the rev limiter yet, but I ran out of three lane and it was two in the afternoon so there was a lot of traffic.
Hleah-I wish I could get proof of going that fast. Very cool.

The bikes are geared to 140mph at the rev limiter. That is what a Buell engineer told me. Now with that said My 12R was showing 150ish at the rev limiter in 5th.

When I was on the dyno it read 139.99 as a listed top speed, again the speedo was just over 150.

Ceejay,
I just live in Galloway, right down the road from you.

You realize that that of 70 is the most heavily patrolled section in the state, right? There's a HUGE article in the Dispatch yesterday, check it out.

I've geared mine lower because it takes too long to reach top speed - I'd rather get to USABLE speeds QUICKER.

Yeah - top speed is limited by the gearing and rev limit in the ECM. HP won't matter if you're using the stock or race ECM - they're rev-limited.

Buellinachinashop,

You are an evil person - posting that image.

I'm nearly ready for lunch and now I see THAT.

Don't think I'll be able to eat for a couple hours.

Thump-yep.

There's always cops about from 270 west until about 42(truck stop area) on 70. One of those days I guess, coupled with haven't done it in a while. Didn't see any that day-start of the month maybe: ) I'm within ear shot of 70 and used to hear bikes all the time winding her up, don't here em so much anymore-maybe due to that article? Wanna go for a ride sometime? I think I'm done traveling for work so I may have a bit more free time, and right now is the best time of year to ride...

Hell yeah. Mike and Wolfridgerider are both pretty local as well. There's a younger guy named Justin (I think) that works at the NAPA at W. Broad St./Hilliard-Rome Rd. who has a yellow XB9R, but from the little bit we've talked he seems a little anti-social.

But yeah, I'll PM you my cell phone.
