Just used my shop's new VDST Software (from American Sport Bike) for the first time today and I have a question for others who have used it: when I switch diagnostics mode (for example from "dashboard mode" to "strip mode") a little box pops up that says "warning engine damage"- or something to that effect - I click on OK and it brings me to the DTC screen that shows fault codes but there are not any???? I tried several different things so note any changes but the software still acts the same way. The bike's CET is not on and it runs perfect. Is this just the way the software works? The instruction manual is terrible so any tips would be greatly appreciated. PS: the TPS reset function works great - highly recommended for anyone wanting this feature alone. |

Mine does that too. I think it's a certain version of the software that has a glitch somewhere. My bike runs perfect, with no CEL, also. |

We just used ours for the first time and it did the same thing. Looked up the update on the Technoresearch web page. That revision is the same as what we have just purchased from Al at American Sportbike. Any other thoughts? Maybe we can hear from Al on this one. |

It's a bug. But a harmless one. Close that window and it's all OK. I'll talk to the folks at TR about it again. Al |

Any word from TR about the bug? |

Seriously, Al, he waited 28 hours and it's still not resolved? I get the feeling that he was one of those kids who said "are we there yet" continuously once the family car got a block from home. |

Could it just be a warning telling you that if you make changes without knowing what you are doing, expect engine damage?? |

"I get the feeling that he was one of those kids who said "are we there yet" continuously once the family car got a block from home." Are you serious Fmaxwell? If you don't have something useful to add why not keep your smart ass mouth shut. I have also sold one of these units to another bike shop and would rather not wait for a complaint but be prepared with an answer to the question that is inevitable. Obviously the manufacturer has been aware of the problem for some time and has not addressed the issue since Al has prior knowledge of the "bug". It is called customer service - I am sure you would like to be treated with the same concern when you patronize a bike shop. Your comment wastes everybody's time. This is a great forum for sharing information and I hope that others will benefit from my question and eventual answer. |

I've played phone tag with them this week, and we've been so swamped this week I haven't been able to follow up on it diligently. Hopefully I'll reach them tomorrow. I just sent them some email to get to the bottom of it. Al |

Or you could call them yourself. Whenever I had an issue I sent an email with phone number and got a call back within 24hrs. Walked me through my issues and all has been good. |

I spoke with them today..they thought the bug had been fixed. I assured them it had not, and then proceeded to load successive versions that have been released until I found the one that seems to have introduced the bug. I've forwarded that info to them, they ought to be able to ferret it out with that info. Stay tuned. In the meantime, just click past it, it is relatively harmless, if not slightly annoying. Al |

Not to hijack this thread...but after reading through it again...I'm not sure if my warning is actually warranted. I just installed a new to me race ECM, reset the TPS and had to occasionally fuss with the warning window throughout the process. But MY warning window states that the fuel pump and #2 injector are shorted to the battery...then it clears to nothing. Anyone else's do this? ...or do you just get the warning screen with no codes...I think my codes were 32 and 33. My bike runs great though...no problems at all. And with the new ECM it's better than ever. Hmmmmmm.... |

If the bike runs "great", use the software to clear the codes, ride the bike "for a bit", and check it again. Odds are it was displaying past codes, and next time it will be blank, like ours are. It's a pain, but it's being worked on(see above). |

Yeah, I have something useful to say: You're a rude, impatient twit with unreasonable expectations -- both of Al and of Technoresearch. You don't even have the courtesy to give Al a few days before you start bugging him for an answer. I have also sold one of these units to another bike shop and would rather not wait for a complaint but be prepared with an answer to the question that is inevitable. If you are selling the software to your customer, why are you relying on third-hand exchanges in a public forum for tech support? Why aren't you calling or e-mailing Technoresearch yourself. Obviously the manufacturer has been aware of the problem for some time and has not addressed the issue since Al has prior knowledge of the "bug". That's all the more reason to believe that it's not going to be fixed overnight. |

Fmaxwell: good natured kidding - I don't think so. Bugging Al for an answer - hardly. Looking for third hand exchanges for tech support? That is not how the post began - was a general inquiry to see if the situation was normal - obviously it is not. Problem not going to be fixed overnight?- is clear from other people's posts that there is a problem, there has been for some time, and from what I can gather, some thought the issue had been solved so it is good that I have brought the matter up. I'm a "rude impatient twit with unreasonable expectations..." -another example of an internet tough guy. Get a life. |

Brent_crossbronkos: Just stop this and apologize. There was no excuse for telling me to "keep [my] smart ass mouth shut." Al wrote "I'll talk to the folks at TR about it again" and the next day you wanted to know if TR had responded to him. Sorry to have to break the news to you, but that's seriously impatient and deserving of a little ribbing. As to being an "internet tough guy," I really doubt that you'd ever say "keep your smart ass mouth shut" to my face. |

"I really doubt that you'd ever say "keep your smart ass mouth shut" to my face." - LOL. Hold on, LOL again. OK, I've stopped now, and you can bet your bottom dollar that I would say it to your face. I apologize to the other list members that have had to endure this trivial exchange. Hopefully those who have been following this thread will continue to do so (amid this other nonsense) in an effort to get a clear answer about the software. Although for some I suppose it has provided some comic relief! |

Still wasting people's time eh, Fmaxwell. An accountant? - try Harley shop owner that has been in the business for 20 years as well as a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces. Out of respect for the other list members I will no longer give you the satisfaction of a response. Your inclusion of the picture re: Special Olympics, is insensitive and in poor taste; I apologize on your behalf to the other list members whom you have offended by its inclusion. |

The VDSTS cable will not work with anything but VDSTS. Inside the "dongle" is a "software key" similar to Direct Link. I tried it, and ended up making my own cable for my Palm Tungsten E2. Tank |

If you want to make a cable for ECMSpy, it's pretty easy -- just three wires to solder. Here's a quickie how-to I posted on Buelletin Board, complete with links to buy the parts: http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showpost.php? p=24445&postcount=18 Others have done them, too. Probably better in some cases, but I knew where my writeup was. I've been real happy with ECMSpy. I've done two TPS resets and adjusted the idle speed a few times. I've used it to back up the data in two different ECMs that I own (a 2006 and a 2007 XB12 ECM). |
