I have a 03 XB9S with 18,000 miles. I bought it new, it has always run like a switch watch...

I recently installed a Spec Ops, Race ECM, removed the snorkel, had the TPS reset, and had the timing set.

It runs excellent, but has developed a hesitation between 4k & 4.2k rpms at full throttle. I only notice it during 5th gear roll-ons at WOT. If I roll-on at 3/4 throttle, it accelerates smooth across the entire rev-range.

I have tried to get the ECM to learn several times by running between 3k and 3.5k for over 5 minutes, but nothing has changed.

I suspect it is running a bit rich, but not sure.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this? Would different spark plugs make any difference?

Mine has done the same thing since I installed the race ECM. I've been told that the Race ECM likes the higher rev range and that there is an inherent dead spot between 4 and 5 thousand rpm. I'm sure it can be tuned, but I just throttle through it.

Mine used to have a weird spot between 4,000 and 4,500 RPM.

The 07 Airbox helped smooth out almost all of it.

is the 07 Airbox a straight swap, is anything else involved?

One thing you should do because i have an 03' xb9s as well is get the open airbox kit or make your own. Makes the world of difference as far as the bikes concerned. My setup is that race ecm, jardine slip on, open airbox with de-snorkled. Runs pretty well some hesitation around 3200rpms but not that noticable and 4k and up it pulls really hard. I was having a hard stumble and it was a temp sensor, got that changed at manch hd and it runs mint now. There is still some hesitation and the only way to get rid of it is to go to a direct link map. Much better mapping system. But 350$ is pricy for my troubles i am having, not really worth it and most pple see a 1/2 hp difference.
