...how much would you ask for my bike if it were for sale??

It is an '05 XB9R with about 1,600 miles on it; it has been swapped to an Scg suspension recently, has DHM front and rear sliders, full race kit, open airbox kit, and a color matched (well, really close) Ermax under tail with red lenses, and the diamond highlighted sprocket. I will post some pics sometime, but just based on the details, how much? Thanks!

Anywhere from $5,000.00 to $6700.00, depending on condition.

Why does that seem so low? I would've thought it would've been closer to $7,500-$8,000. These bikes depreciate kinda quick, eh?

Nature of the beast. Bikes are just like cars when it comes to depreciation. It seems like really expensive ones hold their value, but it is about the same when it comes to the numbers. From the Ducks to the one in a million GS-ZX-R-RR bikes they all lose their value like crazy. Don't worry about what you'll get out of it unless you really want to sell it, and if that is the case swallow the loss and go on.

I would give you $6K or a little more for it if you included the original suspension. The majority of riders don't want the Scg suspension limiting their cornering clearance.

Used bikes only sell if priced "right" (read cheap) regardless of modifications.

In fact I devalue a bike even more if it is modified, beyond bolt-on reversible mods.

Jandj_davis, you would have to contact the guy who has my original suspension on his bike, and convince him to swap it back. I'm 5'6" with a 30" inseam. The stock 9R suspension was a bit too tall for me. I guess if I ever do sell, it would have to be to a shorter rider, of which I am sure there are plenty. I also have found that it corners even better being a bit lower. Not to be rude, but that's the deal.

To all; thank you for your input! I will for certain be finishing out the season, but I hear a '29 Highboy calling my name and have wanted to build one for some time. Money, unfortunately, doesn't grow on trees (yet, but I'm working on it) so it has to be one or the other. Thanks again!!

I'm going to have to disagree to a point. Like all depreciating assets, bikes do lose value; though, to a lesser degree than cars. If you buy a new bike off the showroom floor, you'll take a pretty big hit; however, if you buy used, you won't lose too much at all. Bikes tend to get to a price point and stay there for some time if kept in good condition. Even if purchased new in some cases, the hit isn't too bad considering. For example, I purchased my 2002 R6 off the showroom floor for $8,000 cash. I sold it 3 years later with 10,000 miles on it for $6,000. So, it only cost me $2000.00 for 3 years of fun with a brand new bike. Of course I spent some cash on some custom bits, but nothing too dramatic (pipe, jet kit, turn signals). R6s are popular, so it held it's value well. Buells on the other hand are niche bikes and only appeal to true enthusiasts who want something different. Also, for some reason, Buells don't have a great reputation outside of the Buell community. So, a thinner market results in a higher depreciation percentage. That being said, I purchased my '04 XB12S used just for that reason. I was able to buy it for $6,300 with less than 1,200 miles on the clock. So, the depreciation factor worked to my benefit. When I sell it, I most likely won't get more than $4,000 out of it unfortunately. But, at least I didn't pay $10,000 for it! Sorry for the length, but I'm sure this will spark some opinions.

Used bike always cheaper in cost. When accessorizing bikes I ALWAYS recommend Comfort 1st, Peformance 2nd, Appearance Dead last. Any money you spend on it, is because you wanted to, never because the future owner asked you to, so be careful about charging them for it. ;) That being said, I have some honeys of deals on loaded Harleys available.

Now that I think about it, I bet it would corner a bit better being lower, at least it would corner more quickly and feel a little more stable. But, there would still be cornering clearance lost. I don't think anyone really uses all of a buells cornering clearance anyway. What is it, something like 50 degrees left, 48 degrees right? Crazy.

Bikes aren't an investment. You just can't buy one expecting to make a ton of money off it if once you get bored of it. It's a very harsh reality which is why I plan on keeping and running my bike to the ground.

Why, yes they are. Too popular. Cookie cutter. That's why I have a Buell now. And, any bike can be a hood ornament for a Chevy van.
