XB9 White Wire Mod - On the XB9, there is a white wire, which can be disconnected and results in a noticeable improvement in performance.
It is possible to either cut the white wire (bad idea) or remove the connector from the plug (better) For these connectors, you want the equivalent of a "pick tool". The connectors latch into the blocks by a little clip mechanism. Once you've separated the two halves of the block, there is a "Secondary Locking Wedge" that is a sort of cover over the female part of the connector. You have to prise that off before you can depress the terminal latch and remove the connector.
The white wire is on the grey deutche connector between the black/white and the pink/yellow wires, the second one in from the centre in the front row. This white wire goes to the vehicle speed sensor. This wire is related to the dip in performance to pass noise emissions tests, hence removing it on a 9 should improve performance. On a 12, there are questions as to the results.

Is this true?

I recall a wire mod like this - but it only applied to bikes sold in/to Australia.

It is there. My experience with the white wire was that when it was removed the ECM did not learn a new AFV for open loop operation. Closed loop did not change.

Mine is a xb12x. The only benefit that I can report is if you trick your AFV to go high and then pull the VSS (white) wire then you will have a richer open loop. If your bike starts running lean and you have a stored AFV of 100 or less with the white wire pulled then then you will be too lean in open loop.

The white wire is for European XB9 models. On my XB12Ss the white wire controls the servo for the interactive exhaust. There is also a white wire in the gray connector of the ECM which is the speed sensor.

I would not cut any of these wire on US Bikes. On the XB12 it would be a great place for a home built servo emulator wiring however.

I think this is for European/Australian bikes only.

Yep, white wire is for euro models only, (and ozie's) to pass
environmental tests.
