What a fine piece of engineering.......... Dear Buell, You are sick of hearing from me. I am sick of your bike. Please send me a stick of dynamite so that I may fix this finely engineered machine once and for all. Of course it is all my fault so before you start flaming or telling me how I must have been rude to or mishandled my lights. I admit fault!!! I am the one that took a chance on Buell therefore I am the one at fault. 3,500 obo or trade for anything. Back to CBR's for me, maybe an RC-51. |

LOL I am going to fix up the old Aeromachi 125 and sell that in addition to the Buell. What do you think a world land speed record 125 is worth? lol. Been in my uncles garage since the day after he set the record....... |

Hey Tim. This is a new one. Usually the complaint is the lights aren't putting out enough! I sure wish mine were brighter. It's almost dangerous to ride at night at any kind of speed. How in the world are yours melting? Is it heat from the bulbs or an electrical problem? |

ANYTHING above 55w WILL melt the wiring and probably the backings eventually. So if ya went above the standard 55w YES IT IS YOUR FAULT!.... |

Nope kept the 55's but made them the Piaas. BTW before any one says it is my fault I bought them under the recommendation of the freaking dealer.................. Why did I buy new bulbs? The lights were unsafe at night. Although sticking with the same wattage did not help much at all. |

Shoulda went with 20 dolla silverstars. What part is melting?? Got pics? Heh I'd give you 3500 for your bike if you hadn't done such a good job convincing me its a piece of shit. |

Heh I'd give you 3500 for your bike if you hadn't done such a good job convincing me its a piece of shit. What's worse, is he admits to doing all his own service on the bike But, if he was closer, I'd buy his bike for $3500. I'd take the winter to tear it down to fix whatever he touched. |

Steve, I am a damm fine mechanic. Built a Pinzgauer 710m from the ground up and now have a Land Rover that I do all of my own work on. In fact after reading countless horror stories about the dealers screwing up I am sure I have done a better job than most (: Hell there ain't an easier sport bike on the planet to tune up. Nothing can convince me that Buells do not suck at thsi point. Although I still think the motor, frame, brakes and wheels are awesome. Just that everything they bolted to it sucks. |

Skyguy, at this point aren't you covered my some type of lemon law? Your bike must have been built on a friday afternoon, before a 3 day weekend, while the icecream truck was outside the factory door... At this point I am surprised Buell hasn't brought your bike off you just to get you to go away. |

The old if you worked on it it's your fault and if a dealer works on it and something goes wrong, you should have never taken it to the dealer. |

I'm disappointed with the lights as skyguy is. I think they NEED to be recalled. Maybe im stupid for thinking that failing headlights is a safety concern. (Message edited by isham on December 08, 2006) |

tim, i agree, you should go back to honda's. i have two honda's, one has been perfect, the other has had issues. my dealings with honda produced a similar result to your dealings with beull(and don't even get me started on toyota, they wrote the book on how not to deal with a failure). when i had issues with my buell the company went above and beyond in it's attempts to make me happy(they succeeded). not picking on you in any way, just amazing how different our experiences are! it seems every company has a hit and miss response system, rather like life i guess. sorry it didn't work out for you, get the rc51 it's a great bike. if you were closer to ny we have a guy looking for an xb at 3500. |

STOP! STOP! STOP! Enough is enough... SKYGUY, what EXACTLY has/is melted? You don't mention specifics. At least give the courtesy of identifying the potential issue to other owners rather than using (yet) another issue with your Buell as a springboard into another rant. |

This thread would be perfect if we could just do a little constructive problem solving while we good naturedly poke him with a stick. Hey Tim, what exactly melted on your lights? I take it the Piia's burn hotter even though they're the same wattage? I'm truly interested in your experience as I am looking for a solution to get some brighter running lights too. I would much prefer to learn from you guys than go out and cause myself the same problems. Help us all out. I upgraded to H7 Super White Bulbs (actually blue colored), but it didn't really help much after I spent about $60 to find that out. I think they're more visible during the daytime, but still don't give me enough to ride safely at night on dark country roads. |

Quit your whining, I have not read one constructive post by you, ever! My 12r has 35k on the odometer and you dont see any threads of me bashing the bike, ANYWHERE!!! Do the headlights suck, sure but I dont care, I ride at night a lot and still dont care, I can see far enough ahead to keep me out of danger, even missed a few deer. I think I know what your problem is, the bike is just too simple for your complicated mind to understand! |

you think the sporty for firebolt would be a good trade? im pretty sure i could figure out the issues. i built mine from a milkcrate and grocery bags. it sat for 25 years. simple designs should have simple fixes. |

Ironheadsporty - nice looking bike you got there. Count me in as one of the lucky ones with a flawless 04XB12S. I just go by the book and don't beat the hell out of it. Not to bad anyway. It would be interesting to know how this melting issue happened. Is it only a certain year? Are the stock ones really that bad? My stock Lightning bulbs are good enough for me any time of the night. Definitely sounds like a wattage problem. Maybe find a way to keep stock and add on some extra lights. |

I know I am an for thinking that the Bike is a POS. I mean what they hell kind of guy gets mad about being stranded five times, spending thousands of dollars on B.S. repairs and not being able to ride at night in the mountains safely with the stock headlights .................. I must be seriously whacked to not be singing Buells praises.................. Actually I am a bit of an idiot EVER thinking that by being vocal on this board maybe someone at BMC would notice. Look back through the history of all of my posts and you will see that I was once a great fan of Buell. I even waved the pom pons a bit myself early on. Boy do I feel dumb. And trust me it ain't wise asses like Court or any of the other cheerleaders (Now reffered to as "Hale Boppers" casue the Buell-aid thing bores me and others) that make me feel like that it is the fact I kept the bike past the second belt failure. Why is it that when somone has massive issues with their bike they are "REQUIRED" to still sing it's praises and only talk about the bike in a positive light? Talk about one sided stupidity. Anyway to answer a couple of peoples questions: The headlights are the 55 watt PIAA bulbs recommended to me by the dealer. I already knew that high watt bulbs would melt the housings so was quite careful to go with the dealer recommendation for the upgrade. Again I am an idiot for listening to the dealer......................... They have melted about 1/4 inch of the plastic (that was flaking off anyway) surrounding the headlight bulb itself. At least my tirade about Buells is based on a reality. Some of you folks really are a bit much to believe....................... Ok I admit it I lied I don't even own a Buell. After all no one could ever have so many problems with such a finely engineered machine............................ Also kind of funny that all some of you folks hear and bring to the table is the negative stuff I have said. I have tempered many of my posts with statements like; Most fun I have ever had on two wheels, Best handling bike I have ever owned, I like the uniqueness of it. Coolest frame, brakes and wheels ever. I still respect Erik Buell and think the issues with C.S. would never have happened without HD's involvement are HD related. The attitude many have shown me on this board has only served to further my dislike of Buell. It started with the second belt and the amount of shit I took from some of you for being upset that it broke prematurely. It only made me even more determined to speak out about he bike. In fact I never went to any SoCal Buell Events or joined in on any rides at all because I prefer to be around open minded people that can handle differeing opinions without getting upset. Good Job Hale Boppers!!! I guess we are just supposed to sit back and be happy when the bike turn out to be a lemon. I guess I just missed the comet. |

Easy New12r, Let's not get personal. We can have fun, poke fun, and allow him to vent without getting personal. Sometimes you just need a place to bitch! I'm cool with that. Just don't expect me to not try to inject a little humor into the mix just to keep it interesting. Crap in a diaper is nasty. Crap in the pants of a drunken party goer? Now that's entertainment! |

12R I am sooo happy you are ok with the crappy headlights. Good for you! In fact please ride at night more often! Matter of fact how about I grab my my buddies 1200 Bandit and lead a little night ride up to the Crest? If you can get there in front of me I will GIVE you my bike................. The world would be a better place in just a few miles................... |
