love my 9 ---i think the 9 is more "flickable" than the 12 -- shorter stroke = less rotating mass (gyro- effect) the 12 WILL "step-out" (the rear tire)when exiting corners if you are not careful. |

the only differene i felt between the two is the 12 had longer gears. I had to feather the clutch more in traffic, and i notice the 9 came up easier in weelies due to the shorter gear ratio. The 12 was nicer on the highway however it seemed more confident and alot more oomph. But around town i thiink there about the same. Put a race kit and good map on a 9 and ull b right next to a 12. I have the jardine pipe, race ecm, open airbox with k&N and id like to see a 12 leave me in the dust ive got a few friends that i keep right with... money wise just go for the 9 12 isnt really worth it in my opinion. |

No replacement for displacement. Go with the 12. If you decide to sell it, you'll have an easier time selling it and getting a better price than with a 9... It would be a shame if you bought the 9 and then have to spend big money to get more power, because you can always buy the 12 and spend little money (comparatively speaking) on reducing the weight... Both are fun, but if you can afford the 12, it's a better purchase. |

I had an XB9SX Now have an XB12R Both Buell Race Kitted Both are fun The 12 feels stronger, hits the red line quicker and feels like it could throw me off the back of the bike if Im not holding on when I snap it. Insurance increased ~$50/year for the 12 |

Buy both of them. Read the ODO at the end of a year. The one with the most miles is it! |

Well, since I've been dying to tell anyone who will listen about my new bike, and since you asked, I had a 9S. I never regretted not having the 12. It may not have been quite as fast but it was smooth, lively and sweet running. When time came to replace it, there was a 12S available in red. I test rode it and noticed the heat, vibration and power that made me wonder if I would be able to manage the throttle control needed for fast cornering. I bought it anyway. Before I got it on the road, I was afraid that I had been seduced by a 50 cent hooker covered with rouge, gold hoops and an enhanced pair of jugs. After a weekend of riding it, I love it. After a little adjustment, it is just as easy to ride and I really enjoy the extra torque. The only thing is that it is a little rough around town. Whoever said on the last thread on this topic that you can't make a wrong choice was right. For me, my favourite is the one I am riding now. |

Lucky me, I got to spend 4.5 hours test riding Buells today. American Eagle HD out of Denton, TX had a demo day with about 10 demo bikes of the Buell trailer. I took 7 rides, 11 miles each. They managed to set a course with absolutely no corners, but I was able to slalom through some reflective markers. I rode the bikes in this order: 1) CityX 2) XB12 Lightning 3) XB 12 Firebolt 4) XB12 Lightning Long 5) XB12 Lightning (2nd time) 6) CityX (2nd time) 7) XB12 Lightning (3rd time) While the Firebolt was fun for a short ride, I definitely prefer the riding position and wider bars of the Lightnings. I don’t have too much to say about the Lightning Long either. It felt great, but at 5’11” I don’t really need the extra room and I prefer the nimbleness of the 52 inch wheel base. The CityX and XB12s were both amazingly fun. I had been out on both once before, and was frustrated by the XB12’s low redline. However, I had just come from riding a speed triple, and wasn’t riding either Buell right. This time I stayed a gear lower than I was used to and trusted the torque to propel the bike. Boy did it ever! So enough background, here is what I think: I go with the XB12s. Both bikes could go from 40 to 60 real quick, but while the XB12s could do it in 3rd gear, I needed to drop a gear on the CityX. The Xb12s made its best power from 3000 on up and the CityX from 5000 on up. Now this isn’t a bad thing per se, but because the CityX redlines at 7500, that only gives range of 2500 rpm when the bike is running its strongest. Now don’t get me wrong, the CityX has good power below 5000, just not the kind that snaps your head back. The XB12s, on the other hand, ran its best from 3000 up to 6800, allowing a more generous 3800 rpm range of its best power. Plus, I loved being able to just roll on the throttle and take off, rather having to downshift. **DISCLAIMER** I own neither bike, and defer to the opinions of those who do. This is just my two cents after demoing the bikes today. Take it for what its worth. |

BTW, spending the day on Buells completely sold me on the bikes. Having previously considered a monster or speed triple, there is now no doubt in my mind--the XB12s is the bike for me. It was the most connected I ever felt to a motorcycle, and it handled better than I could have imagined. I am proud to say that come spring, one will be in my garage! |

I went to the demo at lakeland harley and got to ride a lightning low and really had a good time. Second best part of the whole thing is I got a free T-shirt. The next day I head down to Stuntober Fest in Lakeland buell was there again and they gave me another free shirt. I now have a black, grey and white buell shirt, buell sling bag and cap. I love buell freebees. I'll be seeing buell in Daytona for Biketober fest. Hopefully get a another t-shirt while i'm there. |

Lucky me, I got to spend 4.5 hours test riding Buells today. American Eagle HD out of Denton, Bradyr77, I had planned to do the demo at AE but got tied up with a family errand. How many new Buells did AE actually have available for sale? When I did the demo days there back in '04, they had all the Buell factory bikes available for demo but nothing but a single XB12R actually available for sale. (I ended up buying that 12R when in fact, I should've gotten a 12S but that's a whole 'nuther story.) |

Whosyodaddy, If I recall, they had 4 Buells right as you walk in the showroom. Honestly I didnt look too closely, but there was a Uly and a Long, and two more. I didn't ask if they had any more in back. Unfortunatly I don't think they have a real Buell guy there. |

They've never had a "real Buell guy" in the almost 3 years I've been going up there (American Eagle). If you want to hang out in the showroom and be left alone and not be bothered by a salesperson, just start looking at the Buells. Seriously. |
