What API rating and weight does your service manual say?

I'd recommend Mobil1 15-50 -- its even available at Walmart! If you don't want to pay for the extra initial cost & performance of synthetic then I'd recommend the true deisel oils (delvac, rotel, etc.) I assume the manual recommends API - C oils...

Synthetics last longer than conventional oils so you can run them longer between oil changes, hence your long term costs are about the same between synthetic and conventional oils over the life of the vehicle.

Go read the lubrication threads in the knowledge vault for LOTS and LOTS of good stuff.

Short version: synthetic is good.

I've run Castrol Full Synthetic 20w50 with good results, and Castrol Full Synthetic 5w50 with bad results (gets consumed quickly), and Mobil 1 15w50 with good results. Both in my previous Cyclone, and my current 9sx.

Harley Syn3 and Mobil 1 VTwin are both expensive but outstanding oils as well. And Harley Syn3 is sponsoring the XBRR last I heard. Thats worth something.
