I'm helping a friend do some work on an XB this weekend, including replacing a clutch cable -- no service manual for the bike (I'll yell at said friend when I see em!)

is the clutch adjustment like a tuber? that is, turn the srew in til it bottoms lightly, then back out 1/4 turn?

thanks, folks!

Make sure there is absolutely no tension on the cable. Make sure the lever is fully seated against the perch when making adjustments.

Similar question:
Is there anyway to lengthen the friction zone in the clutch? I coach MSF courses and find some trouble having such a small friction zone.

Josh,

The Easy Pull clutch device spreads the friction over a little wider zone. I noticed that right away when I put mine on and liked it. It also put the "starts pulling" point just a little off the grip and I liked that too.

A couple of times in the past when I was helping people to learn the basics, I'd set the RPM up a little and tell them not use the throttle until they had the clutch completely released. That works for some people and bikes and seems to force them to get a little clutch feel quicker.

Jack
