I think the newer Buells 05 or 06+ have holes by the gas tank fill cap... could I put one of these airbox covers on my '04 XB12S ?

Yes, but it will only be a cosmetic change for you unless you get the new inner airbox cover which has the complimentary cuttings in it (or mod your own) to suck in air from the side instead of up from the snorkle.

Thanks Midknyte, would I have to block off the old intake if I buy the inner airbox cover also?

Thanks Diablobrian... if you don't mind I have one more dumb question... if I don't cover the old intake will the increase in air screw anything up?

Not as long as you stay with the stock paper filter.

FWIW, I was running with the K&N for the past year.
My plugs showed that I was running a bit lean/hot.
Have since changed back.
