well i thought i needed a new clutch cable(well i did anyways) and i changed it out and when i pulled it in after adjusting it i notice it was a real hard pull...WTF??? so i take it apart and look inside the clutch cover to find a couple small pieces and one large piece of the primary cover sitting in the clutch area..where the clutch arm sits in the primary (the back part of it) had crack and come apart from the cover. any one ever have this problem? i have the muller power clutch in there and have never had a problem for the 8-10 months it has been in there. would this cause it to break? well now i need a new/used one. anyone have an extra one kicking around they would like to sell and help a guy out? WOULD THIS BE A WARRENTY ITEM BY CHANCE? THANKS for your help in advance!!!

Mine was replaced under warranty for the same problem. It was a bit of a fight to get the work paid for. Mine was rock stock unmodified, but I did all of my own scheduled maintenance. The warranty person kept telling the dealer that the claim was being denied because I had adjusted the clutch cable and not the technician at the dealer. Unfortunately, in all likelihood, the claim will be denied because of your clutch release mod. You could replace all the clutch release parts back to factory spec before going to the dealer.

thats what i was thinking but the bike is far from stock anyways. i had a hard time already at the dealership for a sensor that needed to be replaced. they pretty much told me it was void from a muffler/airfilter mods. typical harley dealers ya know

It's not that uncommon. Mine broke last month with no warranty problems on a stock bike. Yours, who knows.

Firebolteric_ma,

The primary cover and gasket aren't all that expensive. If you ordered the parts from daves and replaced it yourself, you'd save a bundle. Labor was a majority of the warrantied bill for repair on my bike. It is also a perfect time to replace the primary chain tensioner as the nylon slipper block is probably worn completely away. The first run of XB12s in 2003/04 had really soft ones that wore out quickly.

i already ordered the primary gasket and i have a couple extra clutch cover/tensioner gaskets on my shelf from a previous project, they are real cheap so i bought a few of them. my cover is being taken off in the afternoon and i will check the nylon block. thanks for the heads up! i will also be able to re torque the sprocket nut while at it. bike is getting some good ol' TLC this week. lots of new parts that i have on the shelf. been to busy ridding it. thanks guys!
