I have an'05 9R, and I was wondering if the stock linkage can be flipped to shift GP style, or do I need aftermarket rearsets? And just for my own curiosity who all makes rearsets for the XB?

Thanks,
Schmitty

Yes. Simple as it looks.

Getting to the head of the allen pinch bolt is a little bit of a pain after it's flipped but hey, for all the money people put into race mods, that's a cheap one.

You can also get an older S3 shift lever and shorter linkage and use the alternate pivot mount (the plastic plug you see above the stock mount) - but like many other things, I haven't gotten around to that either. I've just got the stock linkage flipped.

I flipped EVERY bike I own though so on the streetbike I'm not having to re-adapt to reverse pattern

easy as pie, see my profile pic! can explain in detail if needed, but real simple, just flip lower lever opposite from stock, re-adjust rod as needed, done!

I went with the Free Spirits rearsets from Trojan. I think it shifts waaay smoother now, and much more positive. Plus they look cool.

Hey Ortegakid, whats the deal with the rear swingarm sliders I see on your bike in your profile pic? Those are not the conventional Buell axle sliders on there. Who makes the ones you have and how do they mount to the swingarm? Looks good by the way.

From another thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=651691#POST651691

gpshift

gpnote

Been riding it that way for a little over a month now, I like it. I've approached a couple stoplights in the wrong gear and I've tried to slip my foot under the lever while in 1st gear a couple times, but have only actually backshifted it twice and it hasn't caused any real problems.

A word of caution though- when I removed the note from the triple clamp it peeled off some of the clearcoat from the Firebolt badge. If I had known I would have put the label on the triple clamp rather than directly on the badge.

There is no provision to use to mount the above styled swing-arm sliders on a stock XB swingarm.

Ortega, did you have mounts welded onto the bottom of the swingarm?

Made my own little brackets, am in the process of mass producing, ya'll will be the first to know when they are ready, hoping to sell them. It was very simple, and they work great, not tested 'tho, do not want too either!

XB already comes with GP shifter in mind. If you want to use the GP shift pattern, mount the foot lever to the upper mount hole. If you see Spike's first photo above, you will see a black plastic piece blocking the upper mount hole (just above where the clutch cable enters the case). Use a screw driver or thin piece to pry out the plastic part. You will need a shorter linkage (about 1/2" shorter). I'll post a picture shortly of my bike.

Using the bottom hole as you see in Spike's photo works, but does not give the best shift leverage. Using the upper mounting hole provides much better GP shifting.
