If you haven't read my post about hit and run accident I had last night, somebody hit my bike and caused a dent in the frame. I was wondering who else has the same issue, frame damage, and what the insurance did to correct the problem. Did they replace the frame or total the bike? If they total the bike, do they cut you a check for the value of the bike or do they get a new one? I will know more on Monday. But until then, I would like to hear some of your stories.

Depends on the company and adjuster.

Just went through the same thing back in December. The frame dented right through the left frame puck. Swingarm got all scuffed up too. Insurance (Progressive) paid for brand new frame and swingarm. Took forever to get the pieces back, but she's better than new now.

They usually will try to total bikes with dented frames. They are
worried about structural integrity because cast aluminum is a crystaline
structure. We know how well Buell frames hold up, but they can't
take the chance because of potential liability, and jury
settlement if a frame did fail. You can imagine how that would
go in a state like California.
