I don't know for sure but if it's anything like most dealers, warranty rate is usually much lower $$$ wise and also the hours allowed to do a specific job it much less also.

Are there Any HD mechanics in here that can shed some light on it.

I know for a fact that the dealer I bought my Buell at, does work on a 'warranty' vs 'non-warranty' bases. It seemed that non warranty work took longer, therefore they WOULD HAVE gotten more money. But warranty work is re-imbursed to them by BMC, so said my ex stealership.

good question..

the factory warranty is listed in your MOM. motorcycle owners manual. they will not pay for towing, lost time, DIAGNOSTIC TIME, so on and so forth. what they pay for is the part(s) and time to replace it. the time is highly disputable becuase they assume that the bike is perfect and no accy, AND you have the parts right in front of you to fix it. example; a softail flywheel replacement only pays 6.5 hours. who in the world could do it in 6.5 hours. the good thing is the dealer can ask for more time on a case by case base. to answer your question a little more direct the warranty end, the dealer always get short changed. on the nonwarranty end they they still get short changed. 1 service writers time + 1 parts person time + 1 tech time + 1 wash guy time + paper work time, for a simple oil change = only .5 hr billed. with 1.5 total in man hours. there not STEALERSHIPS but to a person that cant see what goes on behind the seen they think what they wont until they realy need help....then the tone changes.

I work at a dealership and "warranty clerk" is one of my duties. Buell920 is on the money.

19 DAYS to GET a starter!
The warranty "work" is just starting today...
Woulda been done ALOT sooner with cash in hand I bet.
JUST found out HD only coverd the parts for my voltage regulator n I ended up eating 150$ of the bill..

Buell 920, How much would the dealership get for doing an 03 to 04 belt, pulley conversion?

Just curious as I did it in my buddies shop in just over 30 minutes.......................

Wait I remember! it was $200.00! They wanted another 75.00 to reset the TPS!!

Sorry to bag nothing personal but in many cases the dealer get ZERO sympathy from me!

Oh and $100.00 a tire for mount and balance.

I could take a MMI course and buy a balancer for what it would have cost me to take my bike to the dealer for just tires alone over the last couple of years...................

Under warranty fine, But you got to be a rich fool to have HD do any off warranty work.

Just my 25 cents (damm inflation).

Ok simply puy here is my question.

Hypothetical figures here.

NONwarranty problem 65$ hr to find and fix.

Does BMC/HD match the rate above when it is a warrantied item??
If not what si the % they pay the dealership?

skyguy. thats kool that it only took you a half hour or so. you should get a job at a dealer on flat rate if in-fact that was your real time. $75 for the TPS, well ..................................................ya! screw that dealer. look each dealer is personally owned and H-D and BMC realy cant say much about how they treat there customers.

just remember " It only costs a little more to do it your self "

If it anything like the Auto business, there is the retail rate that they bill to Joe Public, and a lower Warranty rate that the factory re-imburses them at. I too have no sympathy for dealers, and will buy whatever tools I need to do the job right myself.

Buell 920. Yep that was my "real" time.
I have to admit I was busting ass though.

Although in all fairness I did not count for the time it is going to take me to extract one of the snapped pulley cover screws.

Someone needs to tell BMC about this nifty product called ANTI-SIEZE!!! Thats three bolts now.........................
