... I got a ticket. What's my defense for going through a red light that won't sense my presence? The cop told me I should have waited till someone came up behind me but at 10pm in Alabama that could have been a while. First ticket, been pulled over 3 other times all for speeding, ha ha. Love the bike more every day. Relay problem at 10k but otherwise not even one hiccough.

Depends on state law. check your statutes, most states have a provision for this.

Did you wait through at least one cycle of the light before going?

I assume it was a left turn lane, correct?

If those things are true I would absolutely fight it

I would definitely see the judge on this one and plead your case.

im in california, i was told that you cant under any circumstances "legally" run a red light, i asked a traffic cop. he said you can report it to the city and they will try to fix it someday, but he told me that you should turn around or make a right turn and go around. i was also told by another cop by my work that it was ok for me to do it, as long as it was save. as i do it every night, and it is late, and most of the time there are no other cars. he didnt say it was legal or not, and i am sure if it went to court our conversation never happened.

but i was told that there is nothing in the books anywhere that says you can run it if it doesnt work, therefor you are doing at your own risk.

you could argue that you treated it as a stop, like if the power went out, and maybe your circumstances will prove in your favor.

I got stopped last fall, in North Kakalaky for that. It was 5am, I had 500 miles to home. Told the cop I thought it was Bull-oney, he let me go.

After he checked me out.

A light close to a friends house in the country gives me the same prob late at night.

Not wanting to have to deal with cops I get off and walk it across the road then hop on and go!

This light is on a divided 4 lane highway. I was going straight and there was only one other car at the intersection. Cop must have been at the gas station. I didn't wait a cycle, I've been at this light before. I'm really just hoping for no points but I'm definately showing up to talk to the judge.

It would be much easier to get sympathy from the Judge if it was a left turn lane situation.

The fact that you did not wait through one light cycle will be your only issue. I have heard of this problem for a long time, (it's an ongoing issue in MN) but rarely have I heard of anyone not getting out of a ticket for this "offense". I say take it up with the judge and leave out the not waiting part.

CHP cop wrote an article 2 yrs ago saying you can proceed through a light that doesn't sense your presence.

I get up and go to the traffic light pole and I push the button. I have done this numerous times after waiting 20 minutes for a dang light to change.. screw that..

I am a button pusher now.

G/L Fight it.

I'm definately not going to deny any fault however I hope the circumstances allow the judge of Hicktown, AL to see things my way. I'll relay the outcome after my day in court next month. Thanks all.

Alot of traffic lights here in Wa will trip by flashing your brights.. Of course I don't do that unless there is nobody around. don't wanna tick anyone off or git brighted myself.

There is a new part on the market that triggers red lights for bikes that is like 25-30 bucks. I can't remember where I saw it, but it is out there. Increases your inductance to make you appear like a car. Suhweeet!

Huh, I have to run at least one red light on my way to work every morning. It's *THEIR* faulty equipment that forces me to run the red light. The bike doesn't have enough mass to trip the light switches.

<knock> I've never been pulled over for it.

but he told me that you should turn around or make a right turn and go around.

Neither of which is legal itself when performed from a left turn lane... It's definately a catch-22 situation. I can't see a judge pressing this one on you...
