I have been looking to buy an integrated taillight. I know Al over at American Sport Bike(sponsor of this site) sells one and it looks nice. Recently Clear Alternatives put one out on the market. It looks like Al's is brighter, but Clear Alternatives is 1/3 the cost. I know that AL's is great quality unit, but I know Clear Alternatives on Rice bikes are good quality as well.

Al is probably the single best customer service guy I have ever dealt with. An absolute 10.

Having said that, I am looking for an integrated light and I noticed the unit mentioned above and did the same price comparo. Is it bad form to ask about the differences/experiences people have had with either of these 2 products, especially that new one? I was going to call Al but I saw this before I got around to it -

I ordered the Clear Alternatives model today off of ebay for $80 with free shipping, it costs $90 on their site. I have heard nothing but good things about American Sport Bikes and their service, but at 250 for one model and 340 for the complete model that's a little excessive for my budget. Should get it this week, I will let you all know how it looks and get some pics up once I figure out how.

I have the Ermax from Al, and it is a good unit. The reason it is so expensive is because it is shipped over to Al from France. Al takes each one out of the box and checks the wiring for the tail lights and blinkers before he sends them out to his customers now. My first one was shorting everything on my bike out and my battery ended up cracking it, but Al replaced it for me as soon as I called him to talk about it. I've put about 5K on the second one with no wiring or cracking issues what-so-ever. With Al backing up the Ermax I would buy it again for sure. It really is a great looking undertail.

PipefitterMike: I will be interested to see how it looks/works once you get it done. I am currently saving my pennies for the one from Al (along with a Cut tail) (in hindsight marrying an accountant probably wasn't the sanest idea : )). The thing I liked about the one from Al is that is looks Bright. My buddy had an integrated one on the back of his GSXR, but it would wash out in headlight beams, and while I am all about looking cool and the bling, but I would rather the person behind me have some clue about what I am planning on doing. Also the one from Al lights up the Rear Plate. I know most people will say who cares, but a lot of the places around here that do inspections harp on the rear plate being lighted. And have almost been denied an inspection on my last bike cause I didn't have it (FSD undertail on the SV).
Sorry for the rambling, but am interested in this one since <$100 is way easier to get approved.

yeah I agree. I don't have the R undertail or tail section for that matter. But I did buy a LED tail light from eBay from Clear alternatives. It has worked fine, first one burnt out a few of the LED's. Called clear alternatives.. they replaced it right away. Very nice people..
It's all about choices. Its all about money. Get what fits your budget. Regardless, it will be nice, and will look great.
