I have a buddy with a 2003 XB9R and his odometer broke. I helped him look for loose connections but could not find any on the bike anywhere but we really don't know where the odometer/speedo is located at. Any ideas?

The speedometer sensor is just above and back from the front final drive pulley on the top of the case (near where the swingarm mounts). There is a single bolt holding it down with a wire running forward from there down into the front pulley cover just in front of the pulley.

With the engine NOT running and power off, unbolt that sensor, clean it off, and then put it back in...check to see if that helps at all. You can also take off the front pulley cover and check the connections on the wire coming out of sensor.

I had mine go out...simple replacement. Make sure you get the "updated" part...I believe a change was made to either filter or limit the voltage going to the sensor which helps prevent this problem.
