Here is a plug from my xb12. What do you think? Rich Lean Good Excellent? The manual says gray is ok. I always heard tan was.

all of that black stuff is more so carbon from burning oil
most likely.
just curious, how many miles on the bike? what kind of oil used?

No, not oil. Oil would be a lot worse. Rich condition. Do you let the bike warm up for a few seconds while cold before riding?

The defect in that one is bleach.

sorry. couldn't resist.

I am curious to hear the answer on this one. The bottom looks too hot/lean to me, but the base looks like it has build up. Then again, I know nothing about this stuff so I am curious to hear from those that do -

As lean as the XB's are set to run, IMO
"i" would go to 1st RA4HC(905) or RA2HC(900) if the engine will run OK ...

These are Champion part numbers ...

I let her warm up for 4-5 mins always, unless already warm.
The bike runs like a CHAMP.
However she uses oil like its cool though...over 1.5 quarts of oil mobile one 15-50 full syn in 3k miles. (no leaks or smoke.)

Is this the slight description what buell is talking about on page 1-41 8d? Just to add to the confusion. I think it looks like a combination of both A and D in the figure examples on page 1-41.
