Several friends have the Valentine 1, and I've seen it in use on long road trips. Works very well, and I like the directional arrows. The downside is a somewhat cumbersome wiring setup for motorcycle use. I've heard good things about the Escort 8500 as well. I like that it'd be easy to use, including a headphone jack on the detector itself. No directional arrows though. As for reviews of the two - they seem to be trading back and forth and the final result, who gets the first spot seems to depend on the personal preference of the reviewer. |

I just got this project done a few days ago. VERY happy so far. Probably the best 'go fast' mod yet!

Odie - that's not waterproof or anything, right? I want to get a detector and mount it, but I ride in the rain a lot, so I'm looking for something waterproof... Chris - There are a few radar detector threads over at AdvRider, and a few other boards that I've visited on and off lately. Some folks have quite the setup |

Seanp- no, not waterproof although on a motorcycle forum it has been said to be more water friendly than a Valentine or anything else. I don't ride in the rain if I can help it. If it is raining I am definitely within the speed limit so it is no biggie. A remote type system may be what you need for waterproof riding. Space limitations would be the big thing on mounting something larger. I know some people have a detector and laser jammers, etc. |

For waterproof or say water resistant I use a plastic bag and a zip tie for both GPS and my Escort. But like Odie said, when it's raining exceeding the speed limit is the last thing on my mind. |

I have used plastic baggies before. Works pretty good but the pic above looks like it would be best for equipment protection. |

I have been pulled over here in Cali for speeding four times and due to a good attitude and being 40 I have yet to get a ticket. I don't think I would be getting out of any tickets with one of those boxes on my bike though. |

Escort 8500, Hard-wire kit, Marc Parns LED box, ziploc baggie reinforced with Scotch tape and held on with a micro bungie cord. |

Escort 8500 with direct wire. I use the same on all my bikes & helmets. Stem stand for a mount: http://www.radarbusters.com/products/accessories/motorcyles/mounts/default.asp I've used the H.A.R.D. Heads-up system, then I went with an FM mini trnasmiter & helmet receiver, the best route is helmet mounted speakers. I just use cheap ear buds. I run them mono, to an eighth inch female jack in the chin spoiler, or anywhere in the front of the helmet, then direct wire from detector to helmet, that can be unplugged from either end. This is the most positive, fail safe method of using a detector on a bike. I've been doing this for years and I received speeding tickets with both the other systems! |

As far as rain & water proofing, I just velcro mount the detector. That way, I take it off the bike whenever I leave it and pop it into a waterproof pocket, or backback should it rain. I don't do a whole lot of speeding on my bike in the rain, so waterproof isn't a big concern. |
