Isn't the one from trojan carbon fiber. I like it but I want direct match to oem left side, not into the price of carbon fiber.

I got mine in fiberglass and used flat black matte spraypaint on it. Simple and it matches the left side plastic one perfectly.

Thanks for the info guys. Dave do you know how much the fiberglass version would be in US$, sounds like a great addition for cooling and appearance here in Vegas.

there are different requirements for molding the surlyn(sp?) plastic. It is injection molded.

The c-F/fiberglass parts are cold formed and use a vacuum (bag) molding process.

Bottom line is that the molds are not compatible.

Isn't Al at American Sport Bike working on a mold for a right side scoop too? I remember seeing a prototype some time ago. Did it get sidelined in favor of Uly/ECM research?

Is the right side air scoop really worth that kind of money??
I know that it has function and adds style but, damn, thats a lot of dough.

In texas... it's worth it! Keeps the heat down on my leg. Bike runs cooler - always good.

I rode an hour in 100degree weather last summer shut the engine off a block from my house and coasted to my garage. Fan never turned on even when I stopped. So I guess it is significantly reducing the heat enough for the bike to know it's cool. Bike will stay cool as long as you're going forward though..

oh yeah, lookes killer too!

We have plenty of CF scoops in stock, fiberglass scoops are on the way. $259.95 CF, $229.95 fiberglass. Both a molded from Pre-preg using autoclaves in the same mold. I thought the fiberglass ones would come in a little cheaper, but the labor is as big a driver as the materials costs.

They do keep the fan from running as much, which is indicative of a lower rear cylinder head temp.

So the right scoop puts more air to the rear cylinder and keeps it cool - but what about the front cylinder? It's shrouded on both sides with the extra scoop and there's no front fan to use as an indicator that it's running hotter... I want one but I have concerns about this.

It is shrouded on both sides, but the front of the cylinder is completely exposed to the wind. The back cylinder is blocked by the front cylinder and the partially by the frame on each side, and that is why it runs so much hotter.

I know why the back one runs hotter - that's a given, I just wonder about how much hotter we're making the front one run with the added scoop.

Looks a BIT close to the header to me.
Will that melt?
Thatd' suck spending that much for a CF one n having the header warp or melt it.

The one I got (and I can't remember exactly which company I got it from - I think It was Trojan). Anyway the exit opening is forward enough to cool much of the front cylinder as well. The exit opening begins near the top next to the frame about 3 inches in from the front of the intake. The exit opening is narrow at that point and gets progressively larger until it has full exit for the rear cylinder. So about halfway past the first cylinder the intake is cooling then pushing air all the way back through to your fan - which won't be on.

If I remember right from comparing it to the stock left side air intake the design is identical except for the "RAM" air intake the stock one has for your airbox. And the right one has a curve in to keep it away from your headers.

As far as heat, the headers haven't done any "melting" to my fiberglass intake. Or for that matter the headers haven't melted my carbon fiber chin fairing which gets much closer than the stock chin fairing ever did. I do have my headers wrapped though.

Anyone ever remove the stock right side scoop? I wonder if that would cool the rear cylinder more. Just wondering. I kind of think if it did Buell probaly would of designed it that way. Doesnt hurt to ask.

shthigg. I think the stock right side scoop does direct air to the rear cylinder even if just by a much smaller amount. It prevents turbulance from the front cylinder from robbing the rear cylinder of air. It keeps a small amount or air directed close to and around the front cylinder going to the rear. just my guess...
