well my bike has 9854 miles and its in the shop for numerous things...THANK GOD that the old service manager at the shop i bought it at, left, because he was a douchebag. anyways, i have come to the conclusion that my buell would be less expensive if i just parked it in my living room, so after the damn thing gets done eating about 1000 dollars in the shop, im going to put her to rest in my living room and buy another bike in the spring. this is my .02, buells are good bikes IF 1. u baby them 2. u dont think like they are a rice burner 3. u dont run them like a rice burner or try to keep up with them 4. buells are money pits because the stupidest things wear out 5. i shouldve bought a honda.

im sorry about the negitivity of my post, but ive owned dozens of bikes, and this buell was the worst investment ive ever made. eric buell, you need to seriously come to grips. motor mounts should not wear out in 8000 miles. the thing shouldve been chain driven, so i wouldnt have to replace the son of bitch belt every 5000 miles. yea i do wheelies, so what, you dont? haahahha. well its been along time since ive posted here, and prabbaly wont post again until my buell breaks down again, which i figure should be right around 12,000 miles or so.

Please describe the "numerous things" for which your Buell has been in the shop. You don't list a single problem in your user profile.

Non-specific rants like this tend to make me think TROLL big time. What kind of Buell is it? What sort of problems does it have? What sort of service has it gotten? Did you do it yourself, or can it be blamed on poor dealer work?

And if it's an old tuber, why are your comments so general? What makes you think a new Buell would have the same problems?

Well for what it's worth I only have 5000 miles on my XB9SX, but if you ask anyone that rides with me they know that I sure dont baby the thing, and not a single problem.

Sorry you have had problems, but please don't generalize the entire brand.

I bought a used 03 XB9R, ride the hell out of it and haven't had any problems except the stock belt breaking. I would much rather have to change the belt at 10k+ miles then have to spend time cleaning and lubing a freaking chain all the time. All bikes start to need some attention around 10K miles. Might help you save some cash if you learn how to perform your own maintenance. Why don't you get a Ducati or BMW?

17K on my 12R and only a failed trans output shaft (fixed under warranty), one belt (I wheelie AND jump mine). I think that's it. I do my own service.

17K on my 04' 12R. One failed relay....Serviced per the book, by me. More than pays for it's up keep with the fuel saving over driving my truck. But the only thing I have payed a dealer to do is reset the TPS.

I would buy another Buell!

Let's see.
I've gone through 3 stinkin' belts.
A stator went south on me.
Those two oil lines in front of the engine rubbed together causing an oil leak.
And I bought this bike new!
Erik get a clue and build a bike that has less problems than mine has had! Sheesh one would think I had more than 39thousand miles on this bike!

I usually don't pay any attention to posts that are basically one long continuous sentence with hardly any punctuation.

Anyhow... The overwhelming majority of posts on this board would indicate that our Buells (at least the later models) are reliable and excellent performers for what they are. Most of us knew we weren't buying "rice burners" or had false illusions of metric bike performance.

Dude, go get some rice.

I know, the reliability has really gotten out of hand. My 12R hasn't even hit 20k miles yet and I've already had to spend $0.00 in repairs on it. It's just ridiculous. I mean, I should have just bought a Honda, then I would have saved that $0.00 I've spent on repairs. I mean, just think of all the things I could have bought with $0.00.

I'm not saying this guy has not had any problems but god damn he sounds like your typical jap bike rider. I am some what harrassed often by jap bike owners about how the buells break down all the time, etc. You should see the dumb look on their faces when I tell em I have 15,000 miles and have only replace the fronts fork seals, one was leaking due to my high wheelies coming down hard and one O2 sensor. I have the race kit and ride the bike fast and hard often enough.

I have an 03' XB9R, aside from the first 2000 break in/street miles, It "IS" living between 5000-Redline!!! I have yet to have a problem. The only issue that Ive had was when the rivets fell out of my AR/Jardine pipe. $5 at ACE hardware fixed. I clutchless upshift and hold the throttle WFO, ALL DAY....

Sorry, just realized I didn't say it was just the seal as opposed to the shaft...

The transmission output shaft "seal" failed after dropping it into FIRST w/o the clutch accidentally TWICE and after two downshifts from third to second, again accidentally, w/o the clutch. It's the sealed bearing behind the front pulley in the final drive. They didn't even have to drain my Mobil-1 75/90 to replace it...

I also rode it from the American Sport Bike BBQ back to Prescott AZ (I think about 450 miles) with that seal failed and seeping oil. It never seeped enough to bother me in the least. The HD shop that did the work even cleaned it up for me...

Yeah! Mine needs gas added every 139 miles as well, like clockwork! And the rear tire wears out every 7000 miles also! Not just that, but I get cold when I ride it in the winter and hot when I ride it in the summer, and wet when I ride it in the rain. To top it off, I have gained 10 pounds since I started riding Buells.

What a piece of junk. I guess I will just just keep the thing for another 50,000 miles or so then trade it in on something else. ; )

5000 on my '03 XB9R.
I ride it like I stole it
The only parts I had to replace were the ones I broke when I hit the weeds after the stock Dunlops let go mid-corner.
Man, I can't believe how cheap stock parts are for the Buell compared to Jap bikes.
I had far more problems with my Kawasaki ZX-7

If you look at DJ's old posts, you'll see he wrecked his bike some time ago. Seems like a lot of his problems can be chalked up to that. One of his complaints was that the engine mounts on his Buell wore out and he'd never had to replace them on a Japanese bike before (!). Given that this statement shows a total lack of understanding of the design of his Buell, there ain't much point in arguing with him.

At the "Old" local bike shop a guy came in with a Ducati 998 totally clapped out with 7000 miles. Bent valves, stretched chain, never cleaned, worn tires and fried brakes. ANY Bike From ANY country can go to hell if you ride the crap out of em' and never do maintenance. Maybe thats the missing link. I drop my oil after every race weekend. Fork fluid twice a year, break fluid once a year, clutch adjustment every race weekend, chain lube after every session. Pre ride and Post ride EVERY time I get on and off.

15K + miles...one bad clutch cable (due to lack of lube on my part! ) Original "weak" '03 belt still in tact which I will probably replace with my next tire change. I must be drinkin' the kool-aid to keep this POS!
