I re-routed the crankcase and tranny breather lines to a Jazz mini breather on the XB. I was curious as to if the smoke coming out of the little filter was normal. I don't remember any on my tuber and I ran the bike pretty hard to biketoberfest, before I got there I seen some smoke and the bike was making more noise than usual. I pulled over & checked the oil and it was where it should be. Is there any reason why I can't run the tranny breather in with the crankcase? Is there any reason I should see smoke when I stop at redlights?
Now I'm worried.

This would be an excellent addition to the Knowledge Vault...

I can see re-routing the crankcase breather tubes to a catch can (BTW - there's an XB specific one on American Sport Bike that mounts by the oil cooler) but why the tranny breather? It should just be left open by the shock where it was.

Was it smoke, or steam? If it seemed more like steam then that would be normal (sort of). When you get it up to temp it cooks off any water that might be in the tranny (sometimes you get some water leaking in through the clutch cable). If it does it after riding in the rain, then don't be surprised.

Same effect out of the breather tubes if it's really cold - the condensation that gets in there sometimes has to cook off and is vented through there.

Looked like smoke to me, I had been riding for a little over 2 hours when I came through a small town and stopped at a redlight.
The only reason I did the tranny line was that the Jaz has 2 inlets so I figure why not. I did it on my Cyclone.

After it cooled back off and you started it was it still smoking? Was it back to it's normal noise level?

If so, it's probably fine. After two hours all the fluids are fully heated and the bike was probably cooking off any excess moisture. The fluids also become slightly thinner at temp and because of that the sound sometimes increases. As long as the fluid levels are good, you should be okay.
