I cant say enough about the kindness fellow badwebers showed at this past weekends race in Autobahn. To mention a few Dave , The last cyclone , and max. There where people that came by and said Hi for 3 days straight. I am terrible with names , I apologize.

The race report goes like this.

Thursday (Track Day)

It was a tight track and a bit hard to figure out with only 3 sessions. I talked a few things over with Dave from Appleton and got some good ideas. I felt confident as I was one of the fastest people in practice.

Friday (Race)

Thunderbike 4th place

It was the first race of the day . I did not feel I had the intensity or the confidence that I needed. I pulled a 1:36.9 lap time . Not bad considering some of the top Experts ran 1:33s . The guy that won got in my race got in the 1:35's I fought hard for the 4th place finish . This was a first for that ,the competition was stiff!

Gt Lights 2nd place

I knew what I needed to do to get the job done. With one race out of the way I was ready. Much like all weekend most of my time was spent passing the expert riders. I did get passed on the last lap but recovered the 2nd place spot with out much excitement and then opened up the gap with putting another expert rider between us. I am bit more caution passing after my trouble in Black Hawk. I was happy with the result as this should pretty much lock my regional championship.

Saturday (Race)

LW Super Bike

I woke up sick . it was awful , my morning practice sessions had taken a big toll on me. The race started and I finally for the first time this year launched the bike and was 3rd by turn 1 coming from the back of the grid. The same five of us broke from the pack. I new that there was two other riders hot on my tail. I was sick but the adrenaline took over as I pushed the bike as hard as I could. The rear tire was sliding in a couple of turns . I was spinning it up in a big way in turn two. We caught the tail end of the experts by turn 5 . I was in second at this point and did not take some risk that I should have . I ended up in 3rd place by the 3rd lap. I knew my fate would be decided by how well I made it through traffic. I could hear the thump of a twin on my tail. The guy tried top make a couple inside moves on me in what I believe to be turn 8 and 9 . He was pulling out all the stops. I stepped up my game sliding both ends of the bike and hoping he backed off as I held my line steady. Then I puked in my helmet. I had gone to far to give up . We came up on continues traffic . He makes a move on the last lap . I am watching him and believe I can make a pass in the last two corners. We come up on two more riders in the last corner . We both split them and it is going to be close as I come up on his side looking at the checkered flag. He beats me by a foot . I take 4th place. Fastest lap 1:36.5

To get an idea of how fast we ran in that race . I ran the 9th quickest lap for both amateur and expert lap times combined with never having a clear track . The guy that won my race had the 4th fastest combined lap time. All I can figure is it late in the racing season and people are hungry not to mention ready to move up in class. This includes myself.

One another note.

On the FUSA dyno the bike did 87 HP at 440 pounds wet. The dyno is old school and reads about 15% on low side. The factory boys run over 100 HP and weigh much less. There is much work to do over the winter

Another big thanks to all that stopped by ,diablobrian , Kyle , Julie , Hailey , H. Duga , Walt Sipp, and many more.

My admiration grows for the guys/gals that have the determination and dedication to compete in what we all will agree is a truly an exciting and sometimes grueling sport. The competition was great to watch, but the stories of cooperation amoungst those competitors off the track is what makes the community of Buell riders special. It was truly a treat to meet and spend time with with real racers and all those there to support them. Although it is not the AMA, it is the real deal, fast and furious, where cycle racing started. Thanks to all those that drove countless hours to come to Joliet, to 95 degree heat and a facility with no showers, as uncomfortable as it was I do hope you will please come back next year. For all the Buell fans in the greater Chicago region that missed it, you missed a great time, consider coming next summer.
I got some pretty good photos I hope to post in the next couple of days.
Hope you feel better Michael. Barf in a full face helmet and you finished the race! You "The Man", but yuck dude, that's nasty.
Mike K. I didn't know you were there Sunday, let us know about the open house in Ottowa.
Nice to see you again Dave S.
Did everyone know there were a number of guys from Buell H.Q. that rode 160 or so miles to come watch on Sunday?
Kevin and Bob (Speedy) Pirog thanks for the jump.
Oh, and Kevin proof read those posts. Is that shorthand?

Lastcyclone, the open house is Saturday Sept 24th at Starved Rock H-D/Buell. I was there parked by the "Cafe" food area. My Winnebago m/h had Paul James XB12R under the canopy. Several racers and support people stopped in, even some Badweb'ers to "cool" off. And one of the Buell employees left his gear in the m/h while he was there. I kept a eye out for groups of Buellers but was busy getting the bike ready both days. Yea it was hot and the racers did a great job, hope next year we can get more spectators to this track. And even more Buells!

yup, actually I was just being funny in previous post.
It cleaned up nicely. The bugs on the screen were actually the worst part of the cleanup.
My Arai has removable cheekpads and plastic below the screen so it was easy to clean.
