So I thought my used 9R had the race kit, because it had the race pipe. I finally took off the fairing to fix a loose headlight and saw the ECM for the first time. The part # is 32801-02Y and it does NOT say "For Race Use Only" as I have seen pictured somewhere on BadWeb before....but someone wrote RACE on it. The pic is a little fuzzy but it looks like ball point pen writing on the right side.

ECM

All I could find for prior info was this thread
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/34349.html
which leaves the topic a bit unclear. DaveS says the right # is 32814-02Y but at the end Buckinfubba says he's seen the number I have.

So what is it? And the next question is, if it's not the race ECM, why the hell is there a race pipe! I guess I'd be happy if I could get more power out of this thing, because I'm already pleased with the bike as is! Plus, DaveS will be getting another order from me! I just won't be looking forward to TPS reset hell as many XB owners have experienced.

Your engine has probably been running lean. Get the Race ECM. In the interm, put the stock exaust back on in order not to damage the engine further. Hope it has not been very many miles.

The Buell site says the right # is 32620 03Y
The box that MY race ECM came in says #32814-02Y

The only # on my stock ECM is BX9US20CB060. I don't know exactly what that # is.

My race ecm doesn't have anything on it. Not even a sticker.

Great, this is interesting. I'll have to keep investigating.

1. I do not have the stock muffler because I bought the bike used with 5000 miles on it. I've ridden about 700 miles so far and it seems to run well, but then I have no comparison for this type of motor.

2. There are two numbers on the part, the top number is 32801-02Y. The second number below that is BX9PR20CB060, which is similar to what Jasonblue listed.

I looked on the Buell site for accessories and it shows these parts as included withe the full kit.
"Includes Air Cleaner P/N 29388-02Y, Muffler P/N 65163-02YB and Electronic Control Module P/N 32814-02YA"

I guess my next thing is to get into the airbox to see what the filter is....I hadn't taken the time to do that yet either.

Shred has over 20000 miles with a race pipe and standard ECM. Don't sweat it, it ain't gonna hurt the engine. The DDFI our bikes have won't let it run too lean.

Jason,
The 03Y number is the race ecm for 12s not the 9s.
Cold,
I have no idea what you have there.
I'll try to find out on Tuesday when I can talk to the factory.

Thanks for the update Glitch, I'll put it back together and keep riding it as is until I find out more.

Dave, let me know what you find out, no rush. If it is the stock one then I'll probably want to get a race ECM sometime.....but I have some other things I'll want to order with it.

Everyone have a great weekend!

We did a few comparisons with a normal and a race ECM on my X1.

You can see the results here..

Yep,
I just got off the phone with a "friend", that is a very early race ecm, they didn't get labeled that way but he says it is a race ecm.

Sorry it took me so long to find out for you.

How much horsepower is this ECM supposed to add? Just checked my bike out and I have the same ECM. I also have the Jardine Exhaust.

Just a heads up...03-04 XB9 Race ECMs are STILL being delivered from the factory with the 32801-02Y number on them and without the white (For Race Use Only" lettering on them, except for now they are labeled 32801-02YA. It is likely that the programming station is programmed to print the labels and it isn't tied to the HD/Buell actual CM systems at all, thus the part number mismatch. The number after the part number above "02197" is likely a date code, and 02 likely means year 2002. The ones I have in here in stock now have "04XXX" on them, and are in boxes that are labeled with the 32814-02YA on them, packaged in 10/04.

Does anyone have an 03-04 XB9 race ECM with a label on it that says anything OTHER than 32801-02Y(A)?

Al

I've checked my 2003 XB9S, made in September '02, ECM part number is 32801-02Y-02197. No mention of race use only. Never thought to check it until I read this thread. Daves confirms? it is early race ECM? Certainly don't want to pay the dealer to install this kit and get ripped.

And hey Daves, how much longer before that new select seat arrives on my door steps?
