I'm considering installing a new muffler om my 12r and the drummer looks like the way to go. My only concern is losing the valve. I have seen the dyno chart on the web site, there seems to be a small loss right off the bottom. Anyone have a drummer on there 12? Is this noticable on the street? I don't want to give up grunt for sound.

I continue to be amazed at how much of a difference just adding the Drummer and the K&N filter does for my XB9R. Adding the Race ECM really does dial it in nicely.

Seriously consider it. Also seriously consider the amount of money you might spend otherwise and for 500 - 600 dollars it is not a bad deal at all. Add another 200 for the ECM and TPS reset and you are in only 800 bucks.

I have heard people easily spending 2500 or more on a motorcycle engine...as much as 20000 on a high end car engine.

I have the new Drummer made just for the 12 and my mods are below. The bike runs and pulls great from the very bottom to the top of the RPM range. I have also had a D&D on my 12 with all the same mods and its like riding a two stroke with a short power band, there is nothing below 3000 RPM's. Its very noticable when you have a passenger on. The Drummer works very well over the whole range.

No noticeable power loss in daily street/highway riding. Pulls well throughout. Sound is just right and killer. (XB12S, stock filter, stock ECM.

Definately a cut above anything else I've tried.

I replaced a Force system with a Drummer, noticeable increase in low end and mid range.

If you check out the "Drummer vs. Force" topic...

I found that the force makes a couple more from about 3200-4500 and the Drummer makes a LOT more below that and more up top.

This is on a 12 w/ race ECM and tuned PCIII though... you're mileage may vary : ).

the drummer works VERY well on a stock XB12.
the valve in the stock muffler is good for one thing: EPA noise testing @ 1/2 of engines maximum speed. the engine is 74 cubic inches, 3.8125 stroke...., very mild cam timing,and a reasonable primary pipe diameter, it needs no "help" from an exhaust valve to make decent midrange torque. it is there for noise control.
