How many miles until I can expect everything to be seated up and for it to stop using oil? XB9R No horror stories guys. It's still low miles and not doing anything unexpected. |

How many you got? Mine never really used much oil... (Message edited by charlieboy6649 on June 21, 2005) |

These bikes use oil? Mine hasn't used any, hardly... |

My bike's oil consumption over the last 1010 miles was 28oz. I think it is to much for a motor with only 11K miles. I started keeping a log to track the consumption and this is my first data point, but I know it's been using oil since new. (Message edited by gowindward on June 21, 2005) |

It's got about 3,500 miles on it. This is the first time this season that I check and added any oil at all. It slurped up about 12 ounces. |

My bike ate a lot of oil right off the showroom floor. Turned out to be a bad exhaust valve guide. Once I got it fixed, the oil consumption stopped. |

DJ, with that problem, did it blow smoke on start-up? |

No, not that I noticed. You'd think it would, but apparently the exhaust gasses weren't hot enough to ignite the oil when it made it past the valve guide. Of course, there was no indication on the spark plug either. If your bike is smoking during start-up, that sounds like the classic symptoms of a bad intake guide. If your cylinders can pass a leak down test, this may be the problem. |

No smoke from the exhaust that I can tell. The rear spark plug is clean, but the front plug has burnt oil deposits on it. At this point I'm collecting data to support taking it in for a warranty repair. (Message edited by gowindward on June 21, 2005) |
