2005 XB12R. Finally got the VDSTS software to talk to the race ecm (faulty dongle). Got up early this morning and set out for the hills. 309 miles later, back in the garage and I can't get this smile off my face. 44 years on bikes; you'd think I would be over this.

Glad to see that the smile still comes over as we get older. I just picked up my XB12R last week... and at 34 years of age, i figured that I was old enough and mature enough to resist getting stupid and killing myself. Well, that thought went out of my mind on the first ride. I'm 19 again on this thing. Now, where's all those 19 year old chicks at?

Jon,
Faulty dongle? You got the standard version? Mine also does not see the ECM. Techno said it was very rare to have a bad dongle. Maybe I got your bad one...lol

Yup, I smile every time I ride my XB9R. I have 14 yrs of riding experience on different types of bikes, also owned many muscle cars, on my second corvette 96 Collector edition with LT4 slightly modded. Combination of many things about this bike puts a smile on my face like nothing else i have owned and own..

Firewhirl, check the SCM and see what version you have. What I had was 2.1. They replaced the dongle with 2.2 and the communication problem disappeared. The other issue I had was related to the Palm I was using. This was an older unit and software would time out before a session could be established. TechnoResearch were fabulous though and wrote a few patches to address this matter (version 2.26-16D). What's neat is you can pick up an old Palm (for next to nothing on Ebay) and carry a lite version with you. I'm really impressed with the VDSTS and plan on picking up a dongle for my Duck.
