Ok, I just got done putting a new rear tire on my bike. I took it out for a test ride that was about 7 miles. Once I turned the bike off the fan kicked on right away. The temp outside was about 80F and the humidity is really high today. Been raining and sunny on and off today. Was wondering if high humidity can cause cooling to be less effecient on the bikes or if I somehow messed up with getting the belt back on the bike during my tire change causing it to be to tight. I followed the instructions to the letter in the SM.

It is normal for the fan to come on after riding.

When it's 80 degrees out and I go for any ride at all, my fan will come on when I shut 'r down. I think it's a feature.

I read somewhere that the fan comes on after shut down to prevent oil breakdown. Oil still hot for a while.

Know all that. Just found it odd for it to happen when it wouldn't normally kick on after such a short ride. Was wondering if the humidity could have cause cooling to be less effective.

Humidity aids cooling. Sort of like spraying a little water on engine.

Fan comes on more often if it's running lean. At least that's how my bike behaves. I was running TFI at the recommended setting, and then lowered to 1, 1, 2, 7. The fan did not come on at all while riding at highway speeds with the recommended setting. With the lower setting it comes on a lot more frequently, which I believe indicates a lean condition.

Oil gets warm, outside air temp above 75 degs and mine runs for about 2-3 minutes after shutdown.

My physics memory seems to tell me that the more humid the air is outside the longer it take to change the temperature, compared to the same temperature with less humidity.

I gotta tell ya Dale, humidity does not help cool anything down in the summer. It's more like a heating blanket.

You can get it from trojan horse

Cataract2,
I think I have only ridden mine once above 80 degrees and alot of my trips are 5-10 miles long
My fan always runs after I ride except for a couple of really cold days. When it does run, the duration, however, is different
