I was checking the new Buell accessories on their website and there are some nice, new grips........for $79.95?!?!?!?!?! Tell me this is a typo. Would anyone spend that much on phreaken' "Torque" grips? They need to be worth some extra hp for that much money. Is that the correct price? Dave, anyone?

Its due to the cost of the mold wo9rk for the Buell logoing and as you said, an expected lack of demand. Erik doesn't like it when the bean counters want to charge $69 for braided stainless brakelines when he knows they can still make a little bit selling them for $24.95 (Sporty braided VS XB"S", check it for yourself) So if he has to sacrifice it on a part, do it for one he knows is going to be limited demand : )

They must have already corrected it...It said $16.95 when I pulled up the website...

Are you looking at the Traction Grips? Not the special all powerful Torque Grips?

torque grips are $79.95 and it's not a typo! Some dealers are actually trying to sell them for this price. How many do you think they have sold???

They are good for an extra 6 Ft-Lbs of torque at 3700 RPM....... My "seat of the pants" dyno tells me so.

Frankly, they'll likely seel about the same number as McLarne sells F1's and MB sells SLRs.

Let me tell you a secret. I refer you to McConnell Economics. Read the chapter of "The Rationing Function of the System". At some point there is an equilibrium twinxt what a buyer asks and a seller offers. The stock market is pretty much based on this idea.

If you don't want to pay the $$, don't. You can send no more powerful message. If they don't sell, look for a less expensive version.

McLaren - yes, kid I now bought one

I'll bet they'd sell a few if they said "Harley Davidsen Torque" on them instead of Buell. Hell, people that don't even own a motorcycle would probably buy them.

I bought some Italian superbike grips at Ferrachi's with the water activated glue inside, they work great. $7.95.

The link is corrected. Thanks. I must have been switching from one to the other and not realized I had pasted the wrong one. They look like nice grips, but at $80, they need to offer a hand job or something. I was shocked at the price. I think I'll shop elsewhere.

Golly, thanks for Economics lesson Court. Good thing we have scholars like yourself around to point out the obvious.

My keen grasp of the obvious is noted.

Frankly, my greater wonderment is that, for in excess of 7 months, this has been a topic of conversation. I have a fairly long list of things I'd like to own, yet am unwilling to ante up the entry fee.

My wonderment is frankly less the economics and the time spent on the subject. Whenever Harley-Davidson is involved everyone seems quick to get on the "they're ripping us a new one". Where was this crowd at the introduction of the $18K BMW dual sport.

: )

Uh, I don't feel Harley is ripin' anyone a new one. They make a nice enough product at a price that is apparently reasonable enough given their market share and sales volume. Like you said, I can simply choose not to purchase their products. I imagine the BMW's are similar, pricey, but worth it to a lot of folks. Again, I'm not one of them. I was simply commenting on the price of some nice looking grips and wondering if it was a mistake. The market will eventually dictate the price or discontinuation of those grips (and other products). It's been working that way for centuries. I imagine folks have been talking about it all along. Have a good day Court and ride safe.

Yes, they would. It's because stamping Harley-Davidson on something has the power to make it cool in eyes of the general public, while stamping Buell on it only makes it cool in the eyes of Badwebers.

I am always supprised by how many people complement my clothes when I wear a HD tee shirt or jacket, particularly since no one ever says anything if I'm not wearing that stuff. It's pretty amazing that HD has that much influence.

1. I ordered a set of Grip Puppies from California Sport Touring http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Hand- Cont
- they are foam sleeves for the existing grips; they work well to absorb some vibes and give a larger grip (but no hand job). All of $7.95. For 2.

2. Spend an hour examining the construction, engineering and technology, or a few 1000 miles riding a BMW, and you dont gripe about the price (too much).

I've ridden a few BMW's and owned a 3 series car 18 a few years ago. Their engineering and build quality is outstanding. A bit heavy for a guy my size though. Additionally, I ride very little now as my time is occupied with work or my wife and son. I don't want to tie up that much money for a bike I will only ride 1000 miles a year or so. That's why I sold my Ducati. The Buell is fun to go to the stop sign and back (or anything else). Great bike for me right now.

I have a BMWR 1100RT that I used to be able to get away on for several 3-5,000 mile trips per year. Now, my son is 7, and notices when I'm gone for a few days. SO, I got the XB9SX, which is much more fun for the riding I do most often now, which are the 1 -4 hour back road getaways.

Harleys are overpriced, period. The tooling on their motors is used for 15 years, and the frames for longer. Buells have a better frame, better suspension, stronger engine, and better brakes, and cost less $. Buells are priced fairly because they have to be competitive as a functioning machine, not as a lifestyle choice.

Hmmm, well said Spatten, although I definitely have a weakness for the quad cam engines (Sportsters and Buells) JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE FUN ...got three of 'em, count 'em. I just can never justify a big twin, mainly because of what you get for your money. I will put my money on a Buell or Sporty anytime...more monkeys per barrel!
