Hi all, just back from the bike shop after having a pair of Michelin 'Hi Sports'fitted. Got fed up with the Dunlops, I tried 207's and 208's but after only 7000 miles on the clock and now on my third pair or boots,I got to thinking that there must be something better out there. Anyone have any experience with the Michies...good or bad? One last thing, the tech discovered that one of the front wheel bearings was shot and had them replaced too, they were the red sealed ones. I love this bike to bits but it sure does dine out on the consumables!

Hmmm....7000 miles and the front wheel bearings are toast!?!?
Just put a new rear tire on mine at 24000kms (about 15000+ miles?), and the tech said the bearings were fine (?).
Why do bearings wear out at such varying rates? Aren't they built to a certain tolerance like other mechanical devices?
My old KLR650 had 34,000kms (20,000+ miles?) and still had the original bearings (?).
Will the bearing expert please speak up...

Try the Pirelli Scorpions. I have 6K on mine and the rear is only now starting to look like it's getting close to needing to be changed.

Too late for the Scorpions this time round Cat, maybe give them a go if the Michies don't deliver. Flick, it looks like bearing longevity might be down to pure luck. I have never wheelied or stoppied on mine but they definately needed replacing...looks like you got the ones I was meant to have!!

Do The XB's go through tires really fast? It seems like I've seen a lot of posts about replacing tires,fairly quickly. You would think at 7000mi. you might be changing to second pair but 3rd? Ouch! Front bearing bad? Do you ride a lot of wheelies?

Like I said Team....no stoppies or wheelies, I promise. I maybe push the envelope on the speed front but dont ride stunts on the road. I suppose another factor of early tyre ware might be due to the temperatures that you ride in, as for me its more cold and wet than dry and hot where I come from, you would think that would mean more life...or am I missing some important law of physics somewhere?

I dont recommend the Pirelli Scorpions, I have a CityX. I rode a buddies 12s with Diablo Corsas and when I got back on my bike, I thought I was low on air! kinda felt like "tread crawl"

I swear by the Pirelli Diablos. I get around 7500 miles to a rear and 15000 to a front. They grip awesome!

I liked the scorpions up to the point that I rode on the Diablos! I'm not even gonna wait for them to wear out! I plan on replacing them soon! Maybe I practice my burnouts on the scorpions!!

Putting them on tomorrow, anybody need some slightly used, not so state of the art Dunpops.

I wonder if rider weight has a lot to do with tire wear. I'm a pretty hefty guy, 250+ and I think I may be destine to run through the rubber. I'm half-way decent on my bike, no burnouts, a wheelie here and there, but I ran out of rubber on the way home from a 600 miler this weekend. They were the stock 207's. I have (I'll have to check) about 2600 on the bike. The wheels and the new Pirelli Diablos are in the back of my truck. I'll take them down to the shop and get em put on and see what they do.

Gus ...I am a couple of pies just over 190lbs and would seem to have the same riding habits as yourself. I got 2300 miles out the stock 207 rear and 2600 miles from the front. Rider weight may have some small impact but I think its more down to surface conditions, road temperature and a liberal helping of Dunlops that just don't last the pace!

I went through the D207 pretty quick, but the Metzelers seem to last about twice as long. I've also noticed that using my rear brakes around town drastically reduces the life of the rear.

Gus...it has Nov 02 on the headstock ID but wasn't registered for road use till March 04, so the 7000 is one years worth. I took the bike out today to scrub the new tyres up a bit, I did about 120 miles in sun....and enevitably, the rain, and the Michelins performed quite well, apart from one major scare when I hit a 'white line' and went into a bit of a wobble! To early to give an opinion on the tyres yet but I will keep you posted.

Tried Bridgestone 014s on my XB12r at the track this weekend. Knee was firmly planted on the ground on the first lap. Great tires. Ran Pilot Powers on the ZX-10R, and they also worked perfectly, and that's with 150-160 hp.
