I'm thinking of getting a latus system for my 04 xb9s. I want good performance and sound, but I also want to hear a year from now. Who has the best prices for latus or other exh. ?

But I don't carry the Latus.
I have D+D and Jardines in stock.
I also stock the Buell race mufflers.

You can get your stock muffler (9 or 12) modified into a Drummer for $400.

I ain't much for always looking for the best price. I like to support the best vendors and especially the ones who support us and our Buell motorcycles.

Which is better for my 9s. D&D or Jardine? I heard a friends D&D today on his 12S and just loved the deep sound. But which is better for performance?

I work on Saturdays.

I'm not kidding in my post above.
A Latus is an Edelbrock car muffler.

dave, yes, it is based on the Edelbrock muffler. But don't you think you've trivialized the mods they make to it just a bit? It has all the hard points for the chin cowl, it has an inlet stub pipe that puts it in just the right position, and it has dual profiled chrome tips. Making those mods is probably above most of the readers here. It's not like you'd buy one of the Edelbrock cans and have a working XB muffler in your hand an hour later. There's a bit more to it than that.

The Latus muffler is pretty well built overall. I could do without the flame profile that they cut into the front chin cowl lower bracket, but it is pretty much impossible to see when it's mounted. They seem to be pretty sturdy, I don't hear of failures of Latus mufflers anywhere near as often as for Jardines.

That edelbrock muffler as sold for cars is stainless, guaranteed for life. I'm sure the Guarantee from Edelbrock is voided by the Latus mods, but the fact that it IS guaranteed for life by them is a testimony to it's construction sturdiness.

To each their own I guess Al.
400.00 is a lot for a car muffler in my opinion.
You are free to disagree.
I have had one and it was OK. Not loud enough for me.
Performed good, didn't break, most of the paint cooked off of it on the inlet but you can't really see that with the chin spoiler in place.
At that time(and I hope it has changed) their service sucked. That's why I don't offer them.
I can only take hearing "one more week" for 3 months on end once.

What is it you have on your bike again Al?

Too each their own indeed, Dave. I have the D&D on the shop XB9, and the D&D is MY favorite of the available Buell pipes. I like the sharp attack of the sound, and I like that it's torque peak is shifted down a little relative to the other options. It's a little softer on the top for that, but I spend so little time in the redline zip codes that it doesn't concern me that the D&D gives a little up there. Some people say the D&D is too loud, I tend NOT to agree. A Force is too loud, a KT on an old tube frame is too loud, but a D&D? I don't think so personally, but I do always wear earplugs with it. But I always wear earplugs on my S3 with a supetrapp too, and it's not anywhere near as loud.

I guess it doesn't concern me at all that the Latus is a car muffler or not. It works, it's reasonably well built, and it is still quite a bit cheaper than the D&D. More choices is a good thing all the way around, I think. We've sold a number of them, most of the people that bought them seem to be satisfied with them.

Mufflers are very subjective, one persons trash is another persons treasure. $400 may be a lot for a muffler, but then I think reworking the stock muffler & charging $350-400 is high also.

Have seen & heard just about every muffler out there & so far to me the best overall is the D&D.

After experimenting with the stock 12S can, I've concluded that the valve really does work. From what I've read, I'm not convinced that any of the aftermarket cans will perform was well as the stock can for my type of riding (spirited sport riding and commuting with the occasional long trip). At idle the stock system sounds like a lawnmower on steroids (not great). At song, it sounds great to me. I had an 04'1200R Sportster and wanted more sound. I put a Thunderheader on it. It sounded beautiful. It lasted about a week before I took it off. The throbbing was killing me, even with earplugs. I ride a lot and I'm beginning to think that staying with the stock can is best for me. My 12s runs great already and I really am only looking for more performance in the curves. That improvement is free (well, rubber and track time not included). I'm enjoying the thoughtful discussion on this topic.

Mike, I hear ya on the noise deal. I love an unmuffled v-twin just as much if not more than anyone & have had several sets of different style drag pipes on my Dyna. But it gets old on a long ride & is just a cop magnet in certain areas.

For now im sticking with the stock exhaust on my R1 & learn to use the power it has before I go looking for more. Besides I like the stealth mode deal, no cops hearing me 2-3 miles away: D

try the special O.P.S. pipe.loud and the price is right.plus and in my opinion it is a big plus.you do not lose the valve in the can. so you don't have to deal with the check engine light coming on or what to do with the servo and cable. it just bolts right on. and just sounds great.
