I tried a search but couldn't find the answer to this question. I bought my kid a Latus muffler and the race ECM(from Harley) for his XB12R. Is it neccasary to have the dealer install the race ECM? We planned to do it ourselves on Christmas day. Thanks for the input.

You can install it but the dealer needs to reset the TPS on your bike for it to run right. My suggestion to you is to just install the muffler and you can run it like that without the race ECM until you get the race ecm and TPS set. Many here have run there bikes without the race ecm in.Enjoy and Merry X-mas.

you can actually install the race ECM yourself...but it will require a reset of the Throttle Position Sensor...your dealer needs to do that. Some people here have said they installed the ECM and the bike ran fine without the TPS reset, but more often than not it seems to run poorly until the TPS reset is done

Umm some of that I have already said. The bike will run fine with the stock ecm and muffler.Just slightly lean have the ECM installed and TPS reset asap.

Just got the bike done. Latus muffler sounds great. Runs like crap with the race ecm and TPS not set. Will take it Monday and get it adjusted. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't ride it that way.You could ride it to the dealer with the stock one in though and have them put it in real quick and do the tps reset.Or better yet put the ecm in the dealer lot and then have them do the reset.Just a 20 min deal and no more. But she'll run fine with the stocker in for the mean time.

Be careful it's probably going to run lean below 5000rpm. until you get the ECM set up. Mind you if you keep it above 5500 it'll be good fun and it should run fine but it could be hard on your licence!

Surveyor the 12's run slightly lean but the stock ECM will adjust for it so it ain't that bad. There are a few are running the stock ECM without any problems at all on this board and have been for quite some time like all season long.A 9 maybe not be able to do this but a 12 can evidently
