Odie is 100% correct. Nothing on the market beats the "CEP's" . Blocks out almost all engine and wind noise so ALL you hear is the voice on the other end... radio... whatever. There is a reason we use these in the military. |

All, go to cep-usa.com. It gives you basic info about the product. There is a contact number as well. Ben and his wife are the owners. Tell them you're a friend of mine if you contact Ben.They do mod's for people locally but I am working with a friend who is their main engineer there as far as applications for use by us motorcyclists as a whole. They work great in helicopters and a lot of locals (who are also aviators) use them for riding and listening to music. Again, I am NOT selling anything, just letting you know there is a great product out there for use by us to save your hearing as much as possible.

odie thank you. hope snake is ok. if not..... maybe make a cool wallet? tried some little mini earplug/headphone combination units, and had a great deal of sharp pain attempting to install my head into a full face shoei helmet while wearing the earplug/speakers. also the act of donning helmet disturbed the placement of earplugs. i was given a nice little Minidisc player for birthday, an d would be cool to use it while riding. Full- yea, the snake is ok. It's my son's Ball Python. My wife is a Vet Tech so she's always on top of the animal issues in our household. The snake isn't quite big enough for a wallet but would make a good credit card holder!
R_Thing- good shot! Only good snake is a dead one in my book. My son's Python is neat though. It's cool to watch him chow on a mouse. They don't have a chance. Later.....Odie |

Just a little info on how important hearing protection is. When I was enlisted I was the 10th Special Forces Group's armorer for 6 years. We went to the range every week it seemed and no one hardly wore protection. The Army wasn't even concerned then. Around the same time I went to flight school in 1989 the Army became concerned and, being around aircraft all the time, hearing protection got more than lip service. I have wore protection from day one in the aircraft. You can look back in my medical records and see where my hearing got slowly worse when I was enlisted and then leveled out and actually got a little better (your ears can heal themselves somewhat) after I went to flight school. I attribute this to wearing hearing protection when flying or around running aircraft. Even when I'm working in the shop with airtools, grinder, etc. I wear protection. As a comparison, I have a good friend who has flown as long as I have and has never worn protection and he can't hear a dang thing. He comes over sometimes and if the TV is on he has to turn it up very loud (pisses the wife off!) to hear it well. It's one of those things that nobody likes to use (like eye protection) but will make life down the road alot more enjoyable. Later....Odie |

The CEP's were designed to be worn as a part of our helmets in the aircraft... this application is no different. I fly with a couple guys who also ride and they use them. They have touring bikes (bmw's) and have the cep's hooked into the onboard intercom and radio. If you have never tried these things they are pretty cool. Sounds like the voices are coming from inside your head somewhere. Hmmmmmm... that might just be me though, I hear little voices. |

I had an avionics place in Wichita, KS rig up PTT switches for the handlebars of Buells several years ago to that I could use Motorola Visar 4W UHF radios concealed in the bike.
I have a new project and would like to integrate the comm/audio system into the bike so that I can communicate with another ride and receive input from GPS.
We are hopeless gadget freaks... |

They are not really into retail across the miles, more locally, but I will talk to Ben (owner) next monday to let him know that I put some info out there about him and he may get a few calls. Having been on the other end of the tools used to remove metal from eyes, I can only agree. Seeing the pain/discomfort those poor guys were in convinced me to always wear eye protection as well.
Next time you hesitate putting on those doofus goggles, just think of me standing over you, hypodermic needle in hand, scraping that burnt-on piece of slag off your cornea.

Safety poster indeed ...
Imagine it's past midnight in a Copenhagen ER. I've been on duty since 3 pm and we've had a permanent 3 hour wait, despite running like little rabbits: nut cases, hypochondriacs, trauma, heart attacks - you name it. I've had probably 15 minutes of sit-down time: 5 minutes to wolf down a slice of cold pizza and 2 x 5-minute coffee breaks. Welder X shows up because of pain in his left eye; "he just had to spot weld a thing or two, felt something hit his eye and is now in agonizing pain. No welding mask, of course.
So he gets on the stretcher and I drip dye in his eyes. Sure enough; there is a large-ish black spot on his cornea, along with a slew of little highly dyed spots.
The black spot is slag/splatter that hit the cornea, burnt away the top layer of epithelium and is now "welded" to the underlying layer (pun intended). The dyed spots are burst blisters, where the welding light "sun-burned" the corneal epithelium, causing oedema (swelling) and blister formation; blisters pop and leave little craters.
Nothing to do about the blisters - they'll be painful, but heal over in a few days. The slag however is a metal/iron, and will cause iron pigmentation to cloud the cornea if left alone. Not to mention the infection risk. So it needs to be scraped off with a pointy and sharp instrument and the bottom and edges of the burn crater needs cleaning as well. Best tool for the job, really, is a hypodermic needle - although a spatula might work in a pinch 
so I numb up the eye with some local, tell the guy to lie still and keep staring at the same spot in the ceiling. And if he needs to blink ... please let me know before hand  Then to work. Not pleasant for either of us.
He goes home with a patch on his eye and will be in pain for days. I get on with the many other people still waiting in the waiting room - I'll be off duty at 8 am, and time flies when you're having fun 
You can exchange the "welder" and "welding slag" with "grinder" and "glowing metal filing" and have a similar story. Except that those filings often are sharp and come at higher speeds, and therefore often are embedded deeper and may require more scraping and sometimes a strong magnet to pull them out ...
Doofus eyewear (as well as good, cheap ear plugs by the box) can be found for very few $$ at Enco, McMaster Carr etc. etc. Eye replacements however, have a long way to go before they're perfected (tongue solidly planted in cheek)
