Hi All

I have an XB9s with 4000 miles on it and I was looking through the workshop manual (it’s the manual for a XB9R) to see what I need to do for the 5000 mile service which I plan to do myself.
All seems straight forward.

But for the 10,000 miles one (which is sometime off) I see that you have to
“Inspect primary shoe”
What is this I can not find it in the manual?

So how do I do this?

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Lee

Lee, that is the piece (made out of plastic/composite materials) that adjusts your primary chain tension. It is at the top of the bolt that you turn to adjust your chain tension. You cant see it with the outer primary cover on. The chain rides on it constantly so it needs inspection every once in awhile.

Leebridger :
To inspect the primary shoe you will need to remove the primary cover. This means you will need a new primary gasket ($12?) and a new shaft seal($3?). The primary shoe itself is about $24. My primary shoe was barely out of specs at 12,763 miles.

I would recommend having the shoe in-hand before doing the inspection, as most dealers will not have it in stock. : )
