Good news!!!!

On the other hand if Miguel Wins Superbike and FX as a bonus do you think he''l retire???Seeing he's been racing since the early 90's he would going out on top.I'd think that most would want it to end that way.

DuHamel Hits 196 mph @ Brainerd

turn one wonder
by evan williams

Friday, June 25, 2004

Brainerd is built around a quarter mile drag strip, so top speed is at a premium. From the apex of turn ten to the apex of the banked turn one is 5200 feet, according to track lore. That makes for an epic run on the throttle. Radar gun trap speeds are interesting viewing at BIR, especially comparing top speeds to lap times as the weekend goes on.

Miguel DuHamel's Honda CBR1000RR is said by multiple sources to have topped out at 196 miles per hour in the first session. The logical question ... can a Superbike hit 200 mph at Brainerd?

Rad Greaves tried to hit the "double ton" on his Formula Xtreme Hayabusa a couple of times but never managed it. Lap times should continue to fall as the weekend goes on, and top speeds will rise as well. With a sticky Q tire, the mark might fall.

They were seeing speeds of about 165- 175 at Road America a couple weeks ago.

Did you see the supersport and superbike races on SPEED today? There was nobody there in the stands! I guess I should have paid more attention to race schedules, BIR is only about 2hrs away so I could have gone to watch. Of course the Formula Xtreme races were not on TV. Looks like Barnes got 6th and Ciccotto DNF.

It looks like maybe they will be on TV July 4 at 4pm and July 6 at noon?

Go to any of the races & its like that, more people milling around in the pits & buying burgers & t-shirts then actually watching.

Im guilty of that myself. I really dont enjoy watching someone else race, cause after you do it yourself you want to be the one out there. Track days ruined racing for me.

Also look at the stands for the Daytona 200, you are lucky if 10,000 people show up in a track that holds what 150,000 or more?

I don't know what the capacity of Brainerd is but it looked like there were seriously 5 people in the stands. It was hard to tell how many other people were wandering around, but it seemed like mainly race officials and pit crews. I guess I'll have to go to a race before I go to a track day!

Funny, After watching the AMA superbike race on speed, I was glued to the TV for the Assen Moto GP (TT) Race..Looked like every last person in Holland was surrounding the Race Track.

I sure wish the Moto GP circus would come to our shores..

Yeah, I saw that one too and it was a totally different atmosphere because of the crowds and excitement. Speaking of MotoGP, I'm still waiting for my copy of Faster that I ordered over a week ago. Of course I missed that one when it was playing in town a few weeks ago also. The proceeds from the DVD will fund a sequel.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but wasn't Brainerd one of the tracks the Buells were figured to get stomped on due to the higher speeds? Granted he was 50 seconds back but hell 4th was 28 seconds back and 5th was 41 sconds. Now if we could only get some decent news worthy coverage of the Buells it might open some eyes. I mean realistically they have finished in the top 10 with atleast one bike in every race they entered. That speaks volumes. My hat is DEFINATELY off to both teams!

It's only available from the website on the order page. Another good trick is that this movie is made by Ewan McGreggor. I can't stand any other movie he's in but my wife thinks he's cute. I told her I ordered a movie that he's in and that we'll watch in when it arrives. All she knows is the title, I'm sure after about 30 seconds she'll walk away when she sees it's about motorcycle racing!

Yes, Brainerd is a very fast track so the current race Buells had little chance to compete. In every other class the bikes with more power were winning (Kawi in SuperSport and Honda in Superbike) because on the straights the other bikes just couldn't keep up. I think if those teams can keep progressing the way they have they'll get some more recognition for their efforts and success. It sounds like they're still playing around with some experimental stuff, yet doing decent with it. Compare that with multiple teams for every other brand and years of experience on bikes that have been around for a long time. I agree, they're doing a great job!
