Do you guys know if you can order keyed gas caps and locks to specific key codes? My dealer seems to be having a problem ordering my gas cap with the keycode to my ignition. I have a different key code for my ignition than what the bike shipped with. Buell Cust Service says I gotta order the entire set (ignition, gas-cap, and seat key - and that they are all tied to my VIN). This poses a problem because I changed the my bike to the R-Style bodywork. Any input is appreciated |

If you have the key code for your current key, you "should" be able to get the cap and seat lock? Tired of carrying 2 keys? Ride to the edge! Dave Iowa HD/Buell (Buell Cycle Center) |

I have 3 keys now! 1 for the seat lock. 1 for the temporary gas cap, 1 for the ignition. I didnt mind carrying 2 keys, until 1 key broke. I dont like only having 1 key for my gas cap. I have a tendency of forgetting where my keys are. They have tried 3 times to order the gas cap keyed to the code of my ignition. I have provided them with the keycode and even the parts guys know what Im doing. Its the guy ordering the parts that I think is doing something wrong. Either that, or he has to send my VIN, and Buell is referencing my VIN for the keycode. |

Have him call his SPOC rep and explain the situation. Hopefully they can help you out. Dave |

Are the XB gas caps finally key-coded? The 'tuber caps are somewhat universal, or at least there's a whole lot of them with the same keycode as mine. |

Yup same here, though I can use anykey that fits to turn the ignition from Park to Locked, incase I happen to turn it to far and not notice. Which I have done a few times. |

Not a problem. I still havent spoken to the dealership. SPOC? How to tell somebody how to do their job in a tactful way? Tact is not my strong point. Gonna have to be curteous on this one somehow. |

Just got off the phone. SPOC says that they cant cut a key to the keycode. The ability to enter a key code when ordering a key has NO bearing on what key you get. So, my options are: 1. Get an entire set with new keys (ignition, gas cap, seat lock) 2. Have 3 keys. 1 of which I dont have a duplicate for (gonna see a locksmith about that). Anybody know if this would be a warranty repair? The tumblers on the gas cap fell out causing me to break the key off when I tried to use the lock. Thanks, Phil |
