I took my rear wheel off my XB the other day to have the tire replaced. While it was off I manually spun the bearings. They seem to offer a good deal of friction. Certainly turnable, but tighter than I expected. Is this normal? Also, THE $%^&*(# TECH AT HONDA NICKED MY $%^&*(# RIM! GRRRR!!!! Now I have a little silver spot on the edge of my rim. It's only about a 1/8" square if that but sheesh, have a little respect. I guess the old adage about "If you want it done right, do it yourself" works everywhere. I'll be investing in a set of rubberized tire tools and they'll not get any more of my tire business. They're slowly working their way out of all of my business. They're prices are WAYYYY too high on everything. They wanted something like $6 each for four float bowl gaskets for my CB and I got them off the net for something like 50c each. They wanted at least 5X what I paid for fork seals from a place in Canada. Anyway - /Rant = OFF Anyone know about the bearings? Also, The manual says to loosen the axle to reduce the tension on the belt... I did that but the belt was slightly difficult to remove still... Am I supposed to remove the axle completely before removing the belt or just loose it like it says? | ||

Are you certain the nick is from the tech and not the old wheel weight? You are supposed to remove the old weights before balancing a wheel. | ||

Yeah it's from the tech... I didn't have him balance it because I'm getting a new set of tires this week and I'm just using it to get to work and it was already a little after closing time so I was trying to use the least amount of his time as I could. I just cross town to get to work and it's no more than 30MPH the whole way... It's right on the edge of the bead, almost covered by the tire but not quite. I was watching him remove the old tire and his tools were not rubberized. He used tape around the rim to prevent it getting scratched and it is just a tiny little nic... It just torques my chain as I spent a good deal of money on the bike and would rather it not get scratched by a fairly careless tech. Granted, I dropped it in a parking lot and had to replace the front brake lever and right side peg but that was my doing. I guess it also gets me that I tipped him $5 to ding my rim... |
